As I wrote yesterday—the morning was chill and cold. Icicles had grown long and pointed, a testament to the slight melt and continued bone chilling air we had been having.
The little birds were restless, as were the other animals…a shifting of here and there. I thought possibly it was a search for food…the need to fill up to prepare for a long journey or another onslaught of storms.
Then a melt occurred! Snow fell off the roof of the house with a loud bam, snow melted out of the tire wells, giving the car tires a much needed relief from packed snow, AND puddles arrived in the yard where once snow drifts lay.
I was able to get a few things done the snow drifts had stopped me from doing. It was a relief.
Then around 10:30 last night a huge ice storm roared in, with a voice like an archangel!
This morning we can hear the sound of tires slipping and sliding on the pavement a mile away, as drivers head to work, forgetting to go slow.
Just because the pavement looks dry….
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,
Linda
Black ice has been a real problem here in the mountains for the past few days. Some people never seem to learn to drive slowly. I’m glad you got to enjoy a slight melt.

Scary stuff. People think they have four wheel drive and so they drive like they are safe…they aren’t!

Black ice – uck! The 60+ mph winds pretty much ate through our drifts yesterday, but I am sure more snow is on the way. Thanks for the photos ~ and stay warm!

You have been terribly slammed by the wind over there!

Ooo, the icicles look deadly! I’d be nervous until they were gone or broken. Glad you got some time to do chores!

I wear shorts year round if I can. Hate to cover up it makes me feel smothered!

You must be like the Tibetan mountaineering porters: they were asked how they could bear the cold as they went about with bare chests and legs. The answer was “we have face all over us!” Perfectly sensible answer when you consider how much easier the face can bear the cold than one’s middle, for example!

I must be! I like their answer! Just think how cold it would be in Tibet! Brrrr

Yup, not my idea of fun at all. I’ll take heat and humidity any day.

We’ve warmed up to 48* with a 40mph wind (which has blown all day) and now rain! Still only cooled down to 41*. I’ll take it!

We have ice too, no fun at all. Be careful out there! I have been known to wear shorts and snow boots…fashion is all in someone elses head:)

We just had another storm and It’s probably moving east. Plenty of wet snow and rain=ice. 😦 The interstates are clogged with dummies who think they don’t need chains on this. Even big rig drivers who should know better. I’m grateful I can stay home and my daughter can work from home on days like these. Stay warm.

It’s sunny right here with 48* and 40 mph winds. Always something it seems.
