One Field Finished with the Second Step — Wednesday, March 15, 2017

Terry has finished rolling one field…there are many more field  to work , but this one is finished with the plowing and the rolling.

This is what plowed ground looks like —all lumpy and bumpy

And here is what it looks like after being rolled.  There are several more steps to go before we can start water and then plant.  (Terry wet plants…the seeds come up faster and they come up all at once, that way.)

It’s always a good feeling to get one step done and ready for the next step!

Always!

Your friend on a western Colorado farm,

Linda

  1. I’ve never heard of the term “rolling” the fields, but I think I know what he’s doing! I followed the links that you mentioned in reply to the first comment, and the piece of equipment he’s using looks like a combination between a disk and a spring hire. Is that right? It’s so interesting to me how things are done differently or called different things in different parts of the country! Your spring work sure starts early! I hope you have a good start to the growing season! 🙂

    • Thank you, Alica! I don’t know…I tried to look up what a spring hire implement was, but couldn’t find anything. The roller has long tubes that are used to break up the clods…like a rolling pin. We do use the disk first to cut up all the corn stalks. I find our differences so interesting.
