The Third cutting of hay is occurring right now, even as I write!
It’s early this year. By about three weeks.
But when it’s ready to cut, it’s ready!
The third cutting of rich, thick alfafa…drying in the sun. Soon to be made into hay!

I love the smell of freshly mowed (?) mown(?) hay! Our 3rd cutting was late this year…if yours is early, will you get a 4th?

We could, but Terry usually lets it stand…that cutting is too rich. Once it dries on the stalk then the cows can eat it without any problems.

I’m sure they love grazing on that! I guess dairy is different in a lot of ways, though. Fresh alfalfa is a little rich for dairy cows, although they would love it! We always get 4 cuttings…usually 5…and on a rare occasion have gotten 6.

I wish that beautiful hay was coming here to Australia
The cattle and sheep would think they were in paradise.
Some rain fell in NSW and QLD on Monday. Only enough to
wet the ground and let people know that rain still is up there – somewhere!!!
One of my neighbours here in the village told me this morning that
her son was off with a group of fire-fighter co-ordinators for the
Canadian bush fires. She is so proud of her son.

Oh, I miss the aroma of alfalfa. It did not like it when it was here, but I miss it now that it has been gone for so long. Well, there never was very much of it anyway. It was grown more in the San Joaquin Valley Delta region.

Oh goodness no! This is a chaparral climate. It is not too humid here; just too crowded and urban! There is no more agriculture in the Santa Clara Valley.

Yay! I have a feeling we will have an early fall even though we are getting one of our hottest summers ever. It’s something I feel in the air. Glad the weather is working for you.

It’s cool in the mornings now, although steaming in the afternoons. It feels like September….and the plants are acting like it might be fall.

My aster has already started blooming. I put out it’s first bloom Sept 1 last year on the dot. That’s what set me on to thinking fall was coming early.
