Each day is now crowded with signs of fall. It’s in the very air we breathe, the wee chill in the early part of the day
The desperate clinging of the flies to the screens and their mad dash to crowd into the house as fast as the door opens 😦
We saw a huge flock of geese land in the pasture below one of our little mesa’s, scattering and honking as they rustled and settled into a favored spot for the night
The air as we sleep has a crisp feel to it…sounds carry from further distances…a dog barking a mile away seems it is right across the field
But most of all fall is on the land…the plants bespeak loudly; summer weeds have gone to seed, and fall bloomers bursting forth in the slackening heat.
Summer is gone echoing sorrowfully in the core of my soul…for after Autumn comes winter.
From my world to your heart,
Linda
Cheer up, dear friend, it ain’t over till it’s over, and the early signs of fall are just that, signs and omens, not the real thing. There are still sunny days ahead, and flowers and birds to enjoy.

We might have a long fall. Although, this drought makes all of us (even me) think a short fall and a long wet full of snow winter would be the best for everyone.

Sounds cold, but would bring you the water the land needs…

Yes. we are terribly desperate here. Terribly!

Good for you. I dread this time of year. For the next one……is winter.

Are you starting to see fall there also?

Mixed emotions for me. Fall in the air here, too and yet I know we need water to put out those fires and snow to cover everything. Your post today was stunning….the most beautiful pictures. We have already had first frost…..the Virginia Creeper’s leaves have turned red. Crows have gathered and gone. The wind has a definite bite to it, too.

OH! You are in the first blush of Autumn…like you I know we need the snow and lots of it! Lots and Lots of it…these fires are scary and there are way too many of them. But the long dark days drag at me. I’m gathering things to do to keep me busy and my mind active as the sun sets earlier and earlier.

I hate it when it gets dark at 4:30 in the afternoons. Funny, when the kids were little, I never gave the seasons a second thought. Always too busy, I guess.

I was the same way…but I’m not that busy now. Sigh!

At least it is coming faintly. Others think that autumn is almost here! I like autumn, but I do not want to rush things. Our summer lasts most of the way through October. Autumn sometimes does not get her until after Halloween.

Usually by Halloween the seasons have turned. More often than not the children wear coats and often times (any way in the past) had to trick or treat in cold slashing rain.

Oh, that is just wrong! But perhaps it is nor more wrong than waiting to go trick-or-treating late at night because it is too hot to wear a costume. I can remember when it was 101 degrees during the day on Halloween. Fortunately, it cooled off rather quickly in the evening.

Well, fortunately, it is rare. Cold rain would be worse.

We have a breeze today. It’s drying out the pulled beans. Terry will pull again in the morning. The breeze is a good thing.

Thank you—-it won’t be long before you have fall also. 🙂

Right you are, it won’t be long. Some indications of that come to mind: leaves are old looking, weeds are stretching way up there, soybean fields are turning colour, the crickets bleeping is slower, 2nd batch of Robins have long since flown, and daylight hours have shortened. Sigh.

Those skies!!! Oh my. yes, summer seems to be over here as well. I like Autumn because especially these days it is the only seasonal change we see. (As at Spring change we are in Florida and not much difference from Winter that we notice). But winter is no fun and we are grateful to be able to avoid it, I hope for at least for a few more years.

I hope you get to also, Sallie! It’s fun down there in Florida!

Oh…snow. I dread winter and the long cold dark days…but we all need snow and plenty of it…we are way too dry here.

I’m with you on most of this. I will always miss the extra daylight but not the scorching days. We need a real winter with deep snow as that’s where the water comes from all summer. We haven’t had measurable rain in 3 months. The dark days are always hard. I’m ready for a bit of cool though so the fires go out.
