Although it is raining and raining and raining, in the mountains around us it is still snowing.
But between the rain and the upper mountain snow, there is still melt occurring.
The Robidoux River, just below our farm in the Roubidoux canyon is flooding….all the
the tremendous amount of water coming from the high country on the Uncompahgre Mesa
Just looking at the water like this: rushing, raging, tearing away the banks completely changing the course of the river
Tends to make me feel like I might fall in and drown….so I stay far, far away
The Rubidoux River is so full it is almost to touch the railroad bridge as it flows into the Gunnison River…
The Gunnison River is swollen from the gathering of all the streams and the merging of the Uncompahgre River (in Delta), plus the Rubidoux River…it is HUGE now…hurtling toward Grand Junction where it will join the Colorado River.
As the day started winding down, I saw a very faint rainbow in the hissing rain of the dark grey sky
It wasn’t very bright, nor did it last long.
Still, I saw it…and that was just the most perfect gift on the last day of April 2019.

I saw the Delta Cty Emerg Mgmt fb warning yesterday and was worried for all the rain. Hope it stays in the banks, although we know the reality ~ it won’t. Stay safe and we hope it dries out soon! We are to get more snow tonight. Love your mini rainbow!

That looks like our floodwater! Full of red dirt, stripped off the land in the high country, where they can ill afford to lose it. At least we’re finally coming into the Dry and hopefully less rain, heat and humidity – although you wouldn’t know it by the last few days.

That water would be very welcome in the Darling-Murray Basement in the Qld/NSW/South Australia region here in Australia. Full dams are good.

Here in Australia, a “BASEMENT” when referring to the land is an area/region.
In this case Darling -Murray basement would be about 5 plus times the area of Colorado. In other words HUGE!
However, this post of yours brought heaps of lovely soaking rain overnight and still raining today in a majority of the catchment areas – about the size of Colorado.
The farming community is doing cartwheels of joy. Ecstatic would be an appropriate word.
I reckon they would thank you for your Gunnison River report.
