I got this comment yesterday on my post: “I used to enjoy reading your blog, learning a little bit about farming and such, but lately it is so encrusted by advertisements I don’t read it much anymore. It was once a great blog but the ads have taken it over”.
Cobwebs and rosebuds
So now I really need to know….is my blog posts full of advertisements? Please be honest.
I know that when I open my blog for the first time I do see an ad on the side of the post, but if I go out and go back in the ad is gone.
But if you are having trouble reading because of ads, and going out and back in doesn’t get rid of them I will do something different.
I just looked at the cost of going ad-free and it looks like $100 per year
So, while I really must watch my money; I really don’t want to lose my reader base
So if you would be very kind, and take time out of your very busy day
I would be so very grateful for your input!
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,
Linda

I see one ad total, small and on the right hand side. I don’t ever click on ads and so I don’t even notice, just go straight to the content. Never have encountered a pop-up either.

Morning! Love your flowers!
As far add ads… I usually pull up your email announcing your blog on my phone. Looking at your blog on my phone ( which is what I usually do) there is 1 ad at the bottom. Same on my lap top. No big deal.
When I “open” your blog on my laptop under a tab, there is an ad on the right side, one under the rose photo, one under another rose photo, one under the peony photo, one under the photo with your chair, and one at the very bottom before “share this”. They stay if I close the site and reopen it.
Linda it’s the same with other blogs, the ads are there, you just zoom past them. Unlike updates to my phone – The ads don’t bother me ~
It’s totally up to you…

O! It does seem like a lot of ads. I zoom past the ads on other blog posts, and sometimes there are many, but I just go on by. I have to really think this. I am wondering if there will be more and more until WP forces us to purchase.

I have been following you casually for about 10 years or more. I started following you after visiting some good friends that moved from Southern California to an area south of Montrose. I very much appreciate your perspective on life and enjoy your blog. I have recently noticed increased ads, not enough to stop following.
Best wishes to you and your family.

There are ads interspersed in between your pictures for a total of 4, 3 ads at the bottom and ads along the side. It’s not that bad…I mean I wouldn’t stop reading or looking at your pictures because of them.

Linda, if there are ads, I don’t see them because I use an Adblocker. I use AdBlock Plus. It is free and easy to use and turn on and off. I would have thought everyone used an adblocker. Your flowers, by the way, are just amazingly beautiful.

To be very honest, I read your blog through feedly, so I never see the ads, and so never contribute to your reader count. 😦 I’ll try to visit more often in the future, because I do value your photos and engagement with nature, as I enjoyed the view of a different sort of farming than I grew up with.

I access your blog on my smartphone via the Feedly app, and do not see any ads while in Feedly. However, in order to leave this comment, I had to click over to your actual website, and YES, I saw 5 copies of the same ad just to scroll down to the bottom to find the place I could leave a comment.

Hi, Linda. To answer your question, there are advertisements between every two pictures in today’s blog—mainly the gut doctor or some implement company. I just scroll past. I’ve noticed a number of blogs I read are the same.
That being said, I love the pictures of your flowers today. You have very pretty gardens!
Blessings!

On the mobile site – on my phone – there are a few ads in between the paragraphs. Easy enough to just scroll past. No big deal. On the full site on my computer, there’s just one ad at the bottom. I’m not really seeing a problem here at all.

I see one small ad just as you do. I don’t know how anyone can complain about it. Some people are never satisfied. Please don’t spend your money on one add; in fact, put some more in if it will reduce your expenses or pay you.

WordPress just recently, like a month or two ago, changed their structure. They now have more payment programs than they used to. With new programs comes more ads on the free hosting. Those ads make money for THEM and can be a PITA. If you *buy* a program (I pay for premium so I can gave GB room for pix), the ads go away. Some programs let you have ads that pay YOU money. I could monitize my site but, I haven’t.
Anybody that is inundated with ads needs an ad blocker on their browser. There are many out there.
Am I helping?

Ok. So. I opened up Internet Explorer, which I rarely use. It has NO ad blockers on it. I went to your site and I wasn’t signed in to WordPress. I saw no ads.
I tried your site on my beta tester browser, Pale Moon. It has an ad blocker and I disabled it. No ads.
It sounds like someone was using an old browser and they have no ad blockers. But, honestly, I can’t duplicate the problem. Troubleshooting can be hit or miss…and don’t discount WP being a bit hinky, anyway. I routinely have to talk to the programmers about weird s***.
LikeLike
Oh. So the WP programmers are willing to listen and help. That is very good to know. Thanks, Vic.

They do listen. Helping is hit or miss. If they can’t duplicate your problem…there isn’t a problem to them. I know programmers. They think non-programmers are knuckle-dragging proto humans that bang on keyboards with their fists.
I screenshot a lot and, sometimes THAT doesn’t help because they operate inside the very machine that is causing the problems.

Yeah. You won’t see the ads in the Reader, either on your phone app or, the Reader opened in a browser. The Reader is part of the WordPress Content Management System (CNS). If someone visits your site from the outside, meaning, not signed into WP, they will see the ads unless they have ad blockers installed on the browsers.
I was a web programmer in another life and some of this stuff is difficult to understand and ridiculously complicated.

I haven’t visited lately, but it’s not because of ads! I’ve been adjusting to working away from home, and have less time for reading now than I did before 😦
But…I just read through this post and only saw 3 ads, and I could easily breeze quickly past them, so it doesn’t really bother me. Lovely flowers, by the way!
I don’t know much about the other blogging platforms, but the one I use is free (blogger) and I don’t think there are any ads on it…at least no one has mentioned that there are. It looks like you have your own website, and maybe that makes a difference.

It’s not your blog, it’s your reader’s computer. Things such as settings, web browser, unintentionally added adware, cookies from commercial websites they visit (the worst for inserting ads), etc. Everybody’s visit to your blog will be different.

I open your posts in my WP Reader and never see an ad. Ever. I don’t have any ad-blocker apps enabled, but I am using a MacBook rather than a PC, so maybe it comes with stuff like that. If I look at posts on my phone, I sometimes get an ad or two. I think sometimes ads are a response to what the reader has been looking at recently and their own browser behaviours. There are blogs out there that are full of them, but you just have to ignore them if you’re interested in the content. It’s not hard…

I read your posts every day that I can get here. I love coming to visit and I’ve noticed that the free sites are getting more ads on and off but that will never affect my visits. I have been paying for premium for several years even though it’s not in my budget either. It seems the ads show up more some times than others. I’ll still visit as I have the capacity to ignore them just like I do with the TV. Sheesh! They are every few minutes on TV and no one stops watching that, for goodness sake.

I get an ad at the bottom of your posts, but nothing up in the body. The ad is only mildly annoying usually, but mostly because I know you wouldn’t like it there. I don’t *think* I have ads showing up on my blogger site, but I don’t know for sure. Maybe I should ask my readers as well.

Hi Linda, I pay no attention to ads. I’ve been absent as well, but it’s because of overwhelming quantities of work. I’ve been buried for months and can’t wait to dig myself out. I miss browsing your blog calmly. I’ll add this though…when I get the email telling me there’s a new post, I can read the entire body of your blog (photos and all) right in my email. Today for example, there was a small ad, but it appeared at the very bottom so was totally unobtrusive. I am only bothered by bloggers that go out of their way to sell me stuff (as influencers)…I hate that…what happens on your blog is just a fact of blogging life and I pay no attention to it at all.

hmmmmm. I don’t know. Ads are everywhere. They need to be pretty obnoxious to compel me to leave. I sort of home my ads are not too obnoxious. I have been writing my gardening column for more than twenty years, and I know that the newspapers that use it need to make money. I do not notice the ads in printed newspapers. I notice them in blogs only if they get in the way, and that does not happen often with blogs.
