Along Side Fear is Worry — Wednesday, January 20, 2021

I don’t know why I’m having a hard time sleeping at night

Fears and worries crowd my head, causing my eyes to flip open

And to STAY open. I will the shrieks and whistles in my brain to STOP—but you know the results.

Thank Heaven’s the nights are shortening and the days are stretching longer

I don’t know why this anxiety arrives within the night

Sometimes staying with me for a long-time after I get up and start the day.

Sigh.

Your friend on a western Colorado farm,

Linda

  1. You too, huh.
I should call you when I am sitting in the dark counting sheep. And that wind doesn’t help. I wish I had an answer.
    )))hugs(((

  2. Lulu: “These are anxious times for humans, I know, but we dogs are here with tail wags to make things better when we can.”
Charlee: “And we cats are here with purrs!”
Lulu: “And we ask nothing in return.”
Chaplin: “Well, except for canned food.”
    Charlee: “And pets.”
Chaplin: “And toys to play with.”
Lulu: “You guys are kind of undermining my ‘we ask for nothing in return’ statement …”

  3. I’ve been having some very interesting dreams lately… watching huge deer in the woods, seeing extremely huge space crafts in the sky…

    Hopefully you get some rest!

  4. I am a good sleeper and a good napper…so I have a hard time identifying with those who cannot sleep. However my husband has bouts with insomnia…he takes Melatonin and that helps him sleep also every once in awhile he takes Benadyl and that helps him sleep. Benadryl knocks me out for about 14 hours:) I hope you find something that helps take away the worry…email me an unload if you wish…we can all use a good ear…I am here for you!

  5. I have quite a few nights like that too, Linda. On good nights, I fall asleep pretty quick…within half an hour. Other nights I’m awake for 3 hours maybe….if I look at the clock and it’s 3 am….I might get up and walk around the house a bit, maybe eat a snack, before going back to bed, then I can usually fall asleep. But I know what you mean. My sleep patterns changed after I had my cancer surgery a year ago October. Life is a whole different ballgame now….but I do my best to accept things that have changed and try not to panic over problems I might have. I’ll say a prayer for you, that your sleep gets better, at least most of the time!

  6. Oh Linda, I know that feeling so well and I’m not sure it goes away. I’ve been struggling with it for years. I make sure to journal at night and leave all my worries on paper for the night. It helps with the anxiety but I think most of my sleep issues are physical in nature unlike yours. I hope you find a solution because it can be exhausting. Writing helps me find what’s lurking in the back of my mind. I hope you find out what’s lurking in yours.

  7. I know this an older post but it strikes a chord with me right now and popped up at the bottom of your recent post about getting outside and connecting with the outdoors, not staying in worrying- which is where I’m at now.
Returning to this post, I think nighttime and the darker evenings when the days are short and the nights are long, are a guaranteed way to promote worries and anxieties that may be lurking.I amplifies everything to an impossible level and makes sleep a distant memory. The return of daylight is such a relief even if it doesn’t totally eliminate the worries. Generally find things look a lot less dark then. Not sure that is working today though!
