The corn is drying now…past all its growing time getting ready for harvest
Each field (we have three) shows the maturity of the corn –the shucks drying down,
The tops turning gold, then gradually turning brown.
The kernels are dented
and hard enough you can’t poke a hole in them.
The last set of water has been accomplished and then turned off of all the cornfields.
Although, we are still irrigating the three alfalfa fields.
But, for the corn, the growing season has finished. Now we wait for it to dry down to the correct dryness, at which time we start corn harvest.
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,
Linda
Well, that means it’s officially fall ~ bummer.
That and it was 38° here this morning..

Hurry up and wait. Hope you get it out before the rain comes. Due here on Friday night/Sat. And COLD. Rarely this early. Thinking of you.

A freeze now will be okay. It helps the corn dry down.

So amazing…. all that you and Terry do in the course of a growing season. It is A LOT! Hope all goes well as you finish up this season. You are such hard workers!

This year it has seemed rather a lot, but, all and all, we still enjoy it 🙂

you continue to be so beneficially busy (whereas my “busy” is very trivial!). this has nutheeng too doo with yore post, but you might get a chuckle — today (friday) i did a bike ride half-way between my house and yours, the delta(mesa) county line — the area i “skank” (wander around) in has no name that i know of, but i took the two dogs and they ran, i rode a bike … and something i’d never seen before: seven (yes 7) blue-herons flying together more-or-less as a flock. i don’t know about you, but i’d seen occasionally, two (a mated pair, presumably), sometimes three … but seven flying out of a little seasonal pond … well, i did stop to marvel …
