Arson in the Field (?)

A very real possibility of arson occurred in the field about 2 miles east from us.  This sweet corn picker burned up in the night, causing damage to the sweet corn field, stopped the harvest of the corn in that field,  and turned several acres of sweet corn into a crime scene.

For now, everything has been turned over to those in authority and the insurance company.  The sweet corn will be chopped and disked under as the field is released.  What a sad waste for all of those involved.

  1. It’s just plain sad that there are those out there who would do this sort of thing. I’m sorry this happened. Equipment is expensive to fix, the income from the crops is lost, and on a completely selfish note; no sweet corn?…..Waaaaaaa!

  3. What a shame but I’m grateful that no one was injured. Things, as expensive as they are, can always be replaced but loved ones & neighbors can’t. Praying for a speedy recovery for all.

  4. What a senseless act. I hope everything turns out ok for the farmer even tho the sweet corn is a loss.
Rather an unnerving feeling having it so close to home.

  5. That is awful!
I know my husband had to carry a fire extinguisher on the tractor when he bales hay.
I wonder if something in the corn picker had maybe caught fire like spontaneous combustion?
I suppose I just hate to think someone did that on purpose.
