Getting to Know You

When I was in the third grade our teacher found for us pen pals from a faraway place in Washington D.C.  It was something like her brother’s wife taught third grade at  ?????? school.  Each child/student got a ‘pen-pal’ and we were to write (print more like it—-that was a long, long time ago and we were still printing in 3rd grade.  Cursive didn’t begin until 5th grade, way back when). To this ‘other student’ and let them know about life in Eckert, Colorado.

From that point on I was smitten.  I loved pen pals, I have had many over the years as far away as Korea, and as close as the Indian Reservation in Arizona.  But life always has a way of moving people on so pen pals come and go.

Blogging is so much like pen-pals but ever so much better.  Blogs are full of those visual details called photos, and it is as instant as doing an internet search.  Plus the best part of it all, many of my blogging pals have become fast and wonderful friends.

This weekend, Daryl and Kath  and thier kids,

Zack, Seth, Clark, and Tessa, invited my DH and me to their HUGE farm in Wyoming. We went and were entertained with the best of home-style hospitality.

We got to see the new cabin they are building. (All the land as far as you can see is theirs)

Checking-the-Wyoming-Hay

DH and the guys all checked the hay to see if it was ready to rake — it was.

Played with Tubs…he loves to catch water bottles

We had an amazing time!  Thanks Everyone!

Wonderful! If I could, I’d live on 100,000 acres. I love people, but I love land and elbow room. I’d live out there and invite people over all the time. LOL

Wyoming is one of the great places to do this. What a fun time you guys must have had! 🙂

  2. Oh, I used to do pen-pals as well, before internet was very common. I had 35 all over the world. I can’t tell you how badly I had writer’s cramp most days.

  3. Blogging is like that, isn’t it? I’ve found I just watch some people while I comment to others. Occasionally you fall “out of like” with a person too and it’s so much easier to end the relationship when it’s just reading a blog. But the things you can learn and the places you can see in this country of ours and the world really make me appreciate this new electronic medium we have.

Lovely farm in Wyoming – all the land you can see is SUCH a concept here in the land of 2 acre zoning.

  4. Wyoming<—-land beyond what the eye can even see!

I just cannot fathom what the taxes must be!
Here in NW PA on our 200 acre farm the taxes are
OUTRAGEOUS. And they go up every year, but our retirement income hasn't changed a bit. 😦

We are trying to preserve this Family Farm and keep these rural acres in existance, instead of selling it all off in housing plots.
But circumstances are beginning to make it more difficult every day.

I have so often wondered how people out West can afford the acreage?

Such lovely pics of your visit! Thanks Connie!

  5. Wow! What beautiful land. I love all that elbow room.

PenPals, I am still in contact with a few that I have had since the 5th grade, all across the world. Amazing, isn’t it?!

  6. Man, you’re livin’ the life, girl! So many blogging friends are the real deal. People who don’t blog don’t get it (well, and some people who do are still very suspicious sometimes, and sometimes understandably) but I think God has devine appointments out here. If I didn’t think so, I don’t think I’d be here. Glad you all had fun and memories and yay for blogging friends who become real life friends!

  7. When I was attending Catholic grade school I had a few pen pals and this post brings back the honesty that which we conversed. Yes, blogging has the same feel and yet it does not provide the same level of anxiety going to the mail box every day and hoping that a response would be there.

Oh well, I at least know that your photographs provide an added view into your life.

  8. I had a pen pal in Indiana and in Scotland. Over 50 years I lost touch with both of them. Oh how I wish I could find them again. But blogging is such fun, and yes, the pics add so much. As far as the eye can see, eh? ….. to this gal who is surrounded by mountains and trees that flatland looks scary. Like I’d rise up and float away. Fascinating. But beautiful!

  9. Very impressive to own so much land, as far as you can see! My dad has a ranch like that, but I think it´s completely different when you farm the land. I imagine you get a “connection” with the earth you are cultivating.
I agree about blogging and the friends you make. It´s opened my horizon and mind, and I am much opener to meeting new people, as I was.
    Loved the pic´s!

  10. Wow, what a great farm!! I have always dreamt of having land, and hopefully one day I will.

I really love blogging too. My friend Jaimie introduced me to it in Feb and I’ve been hooked ever since. Its a nice way for my family to keep track of what we are up to since I am gone so much!!

  13. How fun that would be to visit blogger friends. I had a dream once that I visited Beaded Tail! It was even nice dreaming about it.

That would be so great to own that much land if you had the big equipment to take care of it. Country dogs have it so much nicer than city dogs with all that space to run free! Abby would love that!
