The first two are large sized eggs, the last two have double yolks….YIKES!
There is something just so cool about going out everyday and gathering the eggs. Once in awhile you get bonus eggs. Double yolk eggs are mostly from young chickens.
That is so neat, Linda…. You all are lucky to get fresh eggs as often as you want them…. AND–to get a double yoked one… WOW!!!! I’m jealous… We buy our eggs at the grocery store —like we do most everything else. I know you work hard –but you are fortunate to have the type of life you do…
Great to observe that the tape measure used for the egg size was “Made in China” – that is the Beijing
mob. Seems that the USA has joined Australia in purchasing anything locally produced.
All “Nike” clothing in shops here are marked “Made in China” – they make it at the ‘slave like’ wages.
Yet sell here at incredible prices – it is the name not the product!
Just to check as I write this – I stripped – every article of clothing that I am/was/ and now due to it being winter
have back on – is marked – “Made in China”. Sad situation, isn’t it?
Way back when I eventually got to LAX Disneyland, after 6 trips in and out of LAX, I purchased a Micky Mouse
statue – I think the late 1980’s.
I never for one moment looked underneath to see – who made it. I think it cost about US$35.
After a couple of years of cleaning the darn thing, I looked at the bottom of it – “Made in Taiwan”.
Good old Micky Mouse was dispatched to the then garden and thankfully someone stole the statue.
I just hope that they turned it upside down and saw where it came from?????
Now back to the topic as shown: The eggs look great – I see omelettes every morning. Hope that the
“wolverine” doesn’t spoil the party. Good hunting in that department – clothes and made in China are
a different subject.
Cheers

The laying hen we got a month or so ago laid a HUGE egg on the 23rd. Wish I’d thought to measure it. Because she had lost feathers the day before, we thought she’d molted and was going to begin laying bigger eggs, but the next day her egg was back to her regular size again. Just cracked it last night and it was a double yolk! Geez, that must’ve hurt! No wonder she didn’t lay an egg the next day.
Our new ladies that we got Saturday are laying. Well, some of them! And one bit me tonight. She might be destined for the stew pot.
I was just saying to Dave that I was shocked that our newest hens have not given us any double yolkers yet! I love getting eggs myself!

Don’t ya just love it when a recipe calls for a “farm fresh egg” and you know you can just dash to the coop and gather one. Oh, I love the farm life!

We get our eggs from a farm nearby. Love it to get all different sizes, looks so much more natural than the ones in the shops.

What causes double yolks, and why in young chickens?

Wow!! I always thought the oldest biggest hen in the house laid the double yolkers.
My chore was to gather eggs. Always liked that job.
You are one brave lady to go out to chase off fighting animals!!!

Your chickens lay eggs where you can find them before they’ve set out in the heat so long you’re afraid to eat them?!? What a novel concept ;-).
