The weather stations are saying that we are heading into a dry spell. Boy, is that ever good news!!!

And the puddles are growing things…
This is good because we need to cut the third cutting of hay in a few more weeks. Two weeks, maybe three at the most. And around the first of September it will be time to harvest the pinto beans.
The other thing the rain has brought is cooler temperatures…. which I think are going to stay. No more 104* temps for us (I don’t think) I’ve also seen two flocks of Canda Geese coming in for the winter. (and the sweet corn)
Another sign of a early fall…the robins have left. That always makes me sad. We still have lots of other birds.

We have more robins in the spring, but there are a few that stay all year. We are also getting more and more geese that stay all year, but right now the families are still in bunches and every evening at dusk they move from wherever they were to wherever they think they should be instead. And they DO land en masse in the fields that had sweet corn, sifting through the dirt looking for leftover goodies. It makes me want to buy feed and throw it out there for them. (That would not make me very popular with the farmer guys.)
I hope you get your hay in, too. There’s nothing more snug than facing the winter with a barn full of grade A hay.

Well the mud does look “lovely” – ha ha.
Seems that since Monday night, Brisbane has decided to compete with your area
of Colorado – it hasn’t stopped!
The Brisbane show people ( the agriculture and horse/cattle etc. exhibition is on)
will be pulling their hair out. Today is a Brisbane public and school holiday for people to
attend – you would have to be very keen or mad to go and “slush” around the showgrounds
in the rain and mud.
Never a dull moment with the weather “gods” these days. Have fun in the mud.

If you got too much more water you’d have webbed toes; like I did in Seattle. Glad to hear that you are in for some dry weather. I teased Kath today about them getting snow in October. Tessa’s going to have her baby in early October.

I want you to know how much I enjoy your blog. I am a long time cotton farmer’s wife on the south plains of Texas. We had 14 inches of rain over a 10 day period, and had/still have a lake in our barn and farm house. Never have had that much water before. Now we are needing a rain again. No pleasing a farmer. Your farm pictures remind me of home. But the mountain pictures remind me of calendar photos. Love ’em.

First day in a long time there was no rain or threat of rain. Skunk cabbage is long since reached its maturity. Flowers basically finished and we are close to having a frost. It was really nice today. Still can find a columbine higher up at least we saw a few a week ago. We have been in a downhill slide into fall for a couple weeks.

Hang on to summer as long as you can, Linda! A dry spell has GOT to be on the way and it is still a good month before the calendar says Fall. And it isn’t really fall until the spuds are harvested in October. We’ve had more rain than usual here, too. It’s been nice to see all the green. But mud, not so much.

We have had a couple of flocks of geese fly over, and some of the first leaves are beginning to fall. Rarely do we see 104*, we have been in a heat advisory this week…it has been miserable, makes me feel like a slug.
