Deer Run

A few years ago a person I was working with googled our farm and came to work all excited because we have crop circles all over our place.

Of course, we had to see what all the fuss was about…

Turned out the crop circles were just deer runs

We had a good laugh over it.

The deer like to bed down in the corn fields (see the smashed stalks).  Works out really nice for them, they are hidden AND they have food all around.

On the other hand I was rather disappointed…darn I could have seen a real crop circle up close.

Then on the money side…well at least some huge magic ‘thing’ didn’t do art in our field.

Have a nice weekend everyone.  We’ve warmed up here (somewhat) so hopefully the mud will start to dry up.

  1. We have paths like that in our corn field. They’re caused by kids running through the corn maze. After the corn is cut, the field is still useful for wildlife, the geese fly in late in the afternoon and spend the night out there snuffing around for stray corn cobs. And then when it starts raining, the seagulls will plop smack in the middle of the field (where they have a good 360 degree view) and ride out a storm. We have seagulls because the county dump is nearby. The mice are also attracted to the leftover bits of corn, and the Swainson’s hawks to the mice. A cornfield is like a convention center, isn’t it?

  3. Cute post, Linda…. I’ve always heard how much the deer love to hide/sleep/eat in the corn fields.. They must love yours!!!!! Crop Circle, huh???? Darn—maybe they are aliens and are really just disguised as deer…. ha ha

    Have a great weekend.

  4. We didn’t get the hay fields mowed this year and you can see lots of deer tracks and beds. We decided that maybe we will make paths through for the hunting season.

  5. Linda,

I’m so glad you are warmer. That’s really interesting about the deer. Ours have disappeared because hunting season is about to start. Anyway, perhaps there are strange crop circles and the deer are only making some of the tracks. You just never know 🙂 I love your farm.

  6. You must have a staggering number of deer! Our biggest runs are perhaps one fifth that size or less. For the most part you don’t even notice them in the corn fields, just crossing hedgerows and such. Really good post!
