We left Saturday to go to Greeley, Colorado to visit Terry’s sister, her husband, and his Mother.
Terry’s Mom is in a nursing home recovering from a broken hip, femur and wrist.
We drove in this
Both directions
And all the way home.
Today looks just the same as Saturday and Sunday. You can see the corn standing in the fields. Harvest has stopped, although it’s been so wet it really hasn’t started yet.
The weatherman says it will be in here until Wednesday and then cold weather will settle in. Cold weather isn’t too bad if it is clear…combines can get down fields if the dirt mud is frozen. Also cold weather isn’t bad if the corn moisture drops. Before this storm hit we were at 15% and wanted to start combining today. I guess that didn’t happen 😦
Oh, well…. we got to see Terry’s Mom and that is a good thing.

This is why we live here – at least some say that. All the crops were in back in Iowa. There had been a number of equipment fires because it had been so dry. Had a cousin who’s tractor burned the day before I got there. You will get your crop in!!
One of the reasons I went back was to see my Uncle who will be 90 in Dec. Lives in assisted living and loves it. He’s as sharp as I’ve seen in years. He’s so lucky as your mother- in-law is to have this care.
You guys are a good looking bunch I tell you.

Nasty roads. I think slick roads are worse than snowy ones. Glad you make the trip safely. Hoping for clear weather for your harvest. The sun is shining here–for the moment.

Unfortunately it is that time of year, the snow could of held off for you though! We are trying like heck to get things done before the snow flies but we all know that there is always something that needs doing and you are never ready for the white stuff! Very nice looking family!

Almost the same here. Just a couple of days ago it was sunny and 75. Today the sky is dark and grey and drizzly. We both just looked outside and thought it must be snow, but it’s just how grey and cold it all looks.
My resolve to keep the thermostat set lower may break early. I’m freezing!
What a sweet photo with all the warmth and smiles. :o)

I’m sorry you had to drive through that ‘stuff’, but I guess snow is better than rain at least until you get the corn in. Hopefully the weather man will be correct and you can harvest the corn later this week.

It looks like you are in the midst of winter. You are such a good photographer. I guess I haven’t been around. I love wind in the corn and I love that you captured it on your blog.
I loved the story of your Grandfather in WWI. It was nice getting caught up. I hope you have a nice time in Greely Colorado. Drive safe that is already a bunch of snow. 🙂

Linda, I was thinking of you when I heard that there was snow in Western Colorado. Guess you got it good, huh? Friday we got rain and sleet and then two killing freezes on Sat. and Sun. Helped with the flies and moths! It’s too wet here to get the rest of the cotton in, too. Hopefully we’ll both get drier weather and you, no more snow!
Keep warm…blessings!

Rotten weather for driving in and for the corn..last year lots of the farmers around here didn’t get their corn done in the fall..it sat all winter. Hope you catch a break in the weather:)

Hope Terry’s Mother is doing much better. My mil is recovering from a hip fracture and other hurts. Hope they can both heal quickly and get back to what they were doing. And I hope you can get the corn harvested soon. This is amazing. I never knew you could harvest after it snowed. Glad you are home safe. I hate driving in snow and bad weather. Especially fog.

Lovely visit with family, but not so lovely the weather, huh?
I do hope the weather cooperates and you get the corn in! I’m far too nervous/control freak to ever grow anything for a living.

I didn’t realise that you could harvest after snow! Last year we had a very wet summer, and the farmers had to have special permission to take the combines into the fields – something to do with the soil structure being damaged. Hope your mil continues to recover.

Wowza, look at that snow flying!!! Living here on the KS/OK border we’ve been pretty lucky this fall. Gorgeous fall. Tonight will be our coldest night yet, temps going down into the 20s. But weekend looks promising, hi 50s on Saturday, and hi 60s on Sunday!
Always good to be able to visit family – his mom looks great, and I’ll bet she loved the visit! I love visiting my gramma when I go back to Ohio. 🙂

Glad you made it there and back safely. Hope your mother-in-law heals up quickly and gets to go home soon. That weather looks miserable.
