Storing Corn

We are at 15.4% so have begun again.   This time we will be storing it in the butler bins.

That is a tarp over the loading shoot to keep the moisture out.

We haven’t had to use these bins in a long time, but at least we have them.  Put the corn in, run the fans, unload the corn after it has dried enough and take it to the dairy.  Lots of work, and much more expense, but better than losing it.

  1. That is good news Linda.
I love the quaint name – “BUTLER BINS” !! We call them silos here.
Funnily when I first read your update I read “Butler” as “Butter” Bin !!!.
Needless I thought – “What in God’s name is Linda on about?”
    Pays to re-read!!!
Why is the corn going to a dairy? Has the weather ruined it for human consumption?
Certainly a great deal of work you both have been subjected to so I hope that the
economic/monetary payments are worth all this effort.

  2. When the hubby worked for the beef farmer back in Illinois, he had grain bins with dryers because we had over 100 acres of corn that had to be put up for the cattle. You take care and good luck!

  3. So glad you have this option available. Praise God! I love the little snowflakes you’ve got over your photos. LOL I like them better there than outside my door. I’ll just say it. I don’t want winter this year. I’ve got too much to do. Well, I’m sure this is God’s way of slowing me down. :oP
