Strange Weather and the Corn is Done!

Isn’t this a lovely site?  The corn is gone…either already at the dairy or in our granary.

We checked fences and hooked up the electric fence in bitter cold weather, but the cows are now out on the farm.  80 acres of grazing should keep us from having to feed much.  Although, we do throw out some hay now and then so they will keep coming in.  Wild cows are not much fun to work with.

It is warm here today.  Very warm!  51*.  weird for this time of year.  Although, the weatherman says rain is on its way.  There is snow all around us, Paonia has over 2″ and Grand Junction is experiencing rain.  We are in the middle of the storm, I guess.  Dark, heavy clouds, not a breath of air movement and warm temperatures.

As for me…well I’m not complaining, it feels a little like spring.

  1. What’s the matter with the weather, that’s what everyone seems to wonder. Europe is covered in snow, Australia is cold and wet (and they are supposed to have summer!), rain in California, and now 50*in Colorado. I think I will just close the curtains and enjoy Christmas 🙂

  2. I kept staring at the first picture, allowing the virtual snow to drift above it. I figured since yer done, it wouldn’t hurt a thing!! Glad for you. (and I love the mouse-snow thing, btw. always makes my holidays brighter)

  3. Yahoo, the corn is done! We had rain all day yesterday, snow the day before and snow last night… today it’s cold and still. Did Terry get some back rubs? 80 acres worth LOL

  4. YAY for the corn and for the cows! Relief for the humans. Enjoy the weather, I awoke to 12″ of new snow just overnight (so much for keeping up with it over the weekend, that was a waste of energy)!

  5. This weather is really mixed up, we have had freezes here in central Florida already, usually it is Jan. before we see this much cold weather. A lot of the produce is lost, some oranges and lots of tropical fish. Things down here just can’t stand weather below 27 for more then a few hours. So glad the corn is in, great news.

  6. Well done, Linda and Terry.
With all this strange weather, maybe your winter is over and spring is on the way???
Here, we have had so much rain – Carnavon in Western Australia had 2 years average rainfall
in 24 hours!!!! What a mess, it is there – flooding and cut off. Just north of Melbourne at Mt.Hotham
it has snowed!!! This is December, isn’t it?

The Aberdeen Angus should enjoy eating all the leftovers in that paddock. You mention
“wild cows” in this post, do “feral” cattle appear from the mountains when you have winter for
    extra food and maybe shelter???
    Cheers from “Quacksville” ie: Australia
