Our old head gate was made of wood and many, many years old. A couple of times last year when I went to open the gate the wood broke off in my hand.
But this was the magic year…our canal was on the ditch companies to do list for maintenance!
We now have a new METAL headgate.
Terry fixed the carrier ditch so we are now good to go as soon as farming starts.
Pretty cool! Another sure sign spring is getting closer.

That was very interesting Linda.
I had to look back at your older post to work out what the heck a head gate was.
My first thought was a ‘head bail’ as in for catching cattle!
Now I’m on the right track.
Amazing irrigation setup. We irrigate a small hay patch here, more times irritation than irrigation!

Nice to have things ready BEFORE they are needed! That doesn’t happen very much in farming.

That’s great, Linda… A new metal headgate!!! I can tell that you all are getting ready for spring…
How’s your weather? Is it still on the warm side there —or colder? We are still warm here –and tomorrow, it may get up to about 70. That’s amazing for February…
Hugs,
Betsy

It always amazed me how long the old wood ones would last. I see you don’t have much winter there anymore 😉

Yeah! I hope it helps the task easier to manage. Shiny and new can be such fun, even when it comes in the form of farm equipment.

Hopefully you will have no more problems with the head gate now that you have a new metal one. It really does look as if Spring may come this year.
