All in the Family

The weather is holding (rain and snow suppose to blow in tonight) so Terry and Misty got busy on the plowed ground.

This is our roller harrow…the new ones are way bigger….HUGE…but this one works for us

You can see the difference between the plowed (chunky) ground and what the ground looks like after the roller harrow goes through

This is how the next generation gets the farming bug….ride a round or two with Momma and then you have to get off and go to town with Grandpa

Of course, going to town with Grandpa means just as much fun (there are toys at the John Deere store!!)

  1. Neat post, Linda…. Like you said, it’s a “family affair”….. Farming does tend to be in families, doesn’t it???? If you grow up on a farm, you probably want to spend your life there… Right????

    Hope your weather cooperates.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  2. I remember riding around in a combine with an old boyfriend actually, they say that traveling together by car will make you closer or make you want to kill each other – try riding around and around and around a big ol flat field in a cramped tractor or combine. THAT’s togetherness! haha Thanks for the memory Linda! heehee

  3. I have missed all these last posts since the babysitter one – my what a sight for sore eyes that dry soil is. It’s either raining, blowing or snowing here. Glad I could come visit and see a dry farm. Fingers crossed it’s all worked up before the wet.

    Misty looks like a pro!

Will tell Daryl that Terry is in the field already!! I think he is “itching” to get there too.(And out of the semi!!)
He has a couple circles to do custom work on this spring.

  6. I think that’s so cool that Misty wants to take over someday. Who knows? Maybe someday your grandchildren will farm the place. That would be cool!

  7. Something about the ‘family’ farm. Love it. What a great experience for a child . . watching the good earth being prepared for seed.

A side note: My hubby worked on a farm as a kid. Was discing. In half-light the exhaust stack hit a big tree limb – tractor climbed the tree and stalled before it fell backward. Hubby landed in front of the discs. Made the local papers :0)

  8. Thanks for posting this, I am learning alot! Did you read that in the Parade magazine from the Denver Post that ranchers/farmers were on the decline. This is sad.

  9. Hehe. Going to town with grandpa. That is the best. Because he takes you to the cattle auction and buys you milk shakes so big you get the shivers in August. Fun to see the dirt getting a workout with that John Deere Green. Misty looks like she is having a great time!

  10. I didn’t know it was so expensive, my husband thought it was because don’t want to work hard anymore. They just want to get paid for doing as little as possible. Still, its a damn shame.

  11. I so wish my 25-year old son was interested in farming, but he wants a job where he can wear a suit every day. One of the biggest farms near here has a family with 3 kids and it was their daughter, also, who chose to farm. She does a great job.
