Sunday Stills-Transitions (March 18th)—My Heartfelt Thank you!

Sunday Stills is a place  where you can practice your photography skills by joining us in a weekly challenge every Sunday.  For this  weeks challenge you are to photograph your interpretation of a transition…

This is a good place to say Thank you to each and every person who wrote expressing sorrow and concern over the two huge fires we had last week.  Each comment I read and each personal email you sent helped Terry and I know how many good people are out there.

Thank You!

Since staying mad or staying angry is a horrible place to be, we are moving on.  The fences will be built, the hills will grow green again, maybe not with the former stuff, and yes, probably with the noxious weeds in our area, but they will be green.

The wonderful old tree cannot be replaced, but I do have lots and lots of photos of it.  The kids are just as sad as Terry and I, but the memories of standing under it waiting for the bus and playing by it will hold us for now.

A spring storm is supposed to blow in soon, we are hoping for rain.  That way the nasty charred remains will melt into the soil and the other things waiting to spring to life will be able too.  Also, the rain will cleanse the air of all the smoke and ash that seems to be hanging around.

I spent Saturday cleaning house and Terry spent it working on the fields.  He finished disking and rolling.  Work is a great stress reliever.  As odd as that sounds.

I’m putting in a photo of another really old, old tree….it is an Apricot Tree.  I’ve been a little afraid to go over and see if it made it through the fire (I took this photo on Monday and the fire was on Tuesday).  It is still standing, the fire did seem to go around it, so there is hope.

That is what springs eternal….Hope!

Once more we Thank each and everyone of you for your thoughts, prayers and concern.

Terry and Linda

  2. I think you’re both quite wonderful how you’ve coped with all that has happened. Yes, work is a great stress reliever and I hope it has helped. It’s beaut that you’ve been able to mentally let things go and not hang on to the justifiable anger. More power to you xx

  3. How very very sad, Linda. I am glad that your home/buildings/animals are safe –but I know how much it hurts to lose those beautiful old trees and to see so much property damage. Just makes me cry thinking about you all and what you have been through TWICE recently. (Glad the Apricot Tree is okay though.)

I hope you will NEVER ever see a fire that close to your home again. Hope the Ditch Company repairs your fences, etc…. And of course, hope the man who caused the first fire does his part of the repair job also.. SO SAD–especially losing so many things which cannot be replaced. God Bless YOU and your family.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  4. I hope the cool and rain we are having heads your way. First time in weeks we are without red flag warnings but it is sure gloomy out! Snow is predicted tonight – spring is coming but I remind myself it is just mid-March not May! LOOL

  5. Life does go on but we’re always thankful for the past. I sure hope the apricot tree made it because it looks like an awesome tree. I love the size and shape she has. We have an old one here……ove 50 years for sure and it’s only ever been just over 4 feet tall….the winter’s are hard on it.

  6. That apricot tree is huge! Do you get fruit from it? work is absolutely the best stress releaser. I’m glad you are moving on but I still think about that fire and the neighbor and it makes me mad — I suppose that since we live in a high fire danger area your situation hit pretty close to home in terms of our worst fear. Also, WordPress wasn’t letting me leave comments on blogs which was very frustrating! I figured it out though — I have to log into WordPress even though I don’t use it for blogging. sigh.

  8. Thank you for this lovely picture of a wonderful and beautiful tree.
The only thing that could have made me cry harder is if one of you or the boys (Fuzzy or Boomer) had been hurt or worse.

  10. My first visit to your blog, through Sunday Stills, and I am sorry to hear what happened “before I got here.” It surely sounds like you have the right attitude. Your picture of the old tree is wonderful and I am glad it escaped. I am going back to scroll back thru some of your old posts — ob viously I missed a lot!

  11. You’re right. Work is a great stress reliever and spring on the farm means all kinds of work. I grieve with you for your loss of field, fence and tree friend. Trees can become almost as much a part of the family as the people. Two of the big ones on our property are gone for different reasons. I recommend getting as big a one as you can afford at a tree nursery to replace the one you lost. Give it lots of love and water and make it part of the family.

  12. Real sorry about your loss Linda and Terry. I did not know about it as I have fallen behind on blog reading lately. I trust that the folks responsible will follow through with their promised fences and you are right in not remaining angry. Anger prevents God from using us and serving Him is the top priority. ( Fuzzy– when Mom acts blue, give her some lovin’, she’ll appreciate it.)
