We had another high wind come through again. Wind without rain.
Just wind.
Our cottonwood tree must have decided it was time to shed a couple of limbs so as the wind blew, down came some limbs.
Thankfully the branch that holds the rope swing was not the one shed. And the climbing branches are still there, just waiting for one or three little grandchildren to climb on.
These two branches came from somewhere up top, lightening the load just a little bit for this wonderful old tree.

I love our cottonwood trees but they do shed branches in the wind!

Hi LInda, High winds can really cause some damage to trees.. Glad your beautiful cottonwood decided just to rid itself of the upper branches and not some of the lower ones which you all enjoy so much… That’s one fine tree… Hope it continues living for many many years.
Hugs,
Betsy

Sometimes nature knows just how and where to prune.

That is a perfect swinging limb!
We had an old elm that had a limb like that. Sadly, the tree gave up the ghost last year. We just talked to a tree guy. He’s going to come and remove some dead trees, dead limbs and branches we have hanging around. But, he’s going to leave the stump and the big limb of the old tree for the birds… if not a swing!

That’s one way to prune a tree! (Glad nothing was under it and that the swing survived).

Oh my, hopefully nothing was damaged but the tree! I would gladly send you some of our rain if I could!

Large trees out on their own are very susceptible to wind damage. I know how much you like your trees so it’s hard to see any damage to them.

Dang. That looks serious. You’ve put a positive spin on it but I’m sure glad the damage wasn’t worse. Whew!

It’s too bad you didn’t get some rain with that wind. I’m glad the climbing branches and the swing didn’t come down. I’m also glad there wasn’t more damage done to that big old tree.

My cottonwood does the same thing although it seems like smaller branches than that. I’m just happy its not too close to the house.

Such a beaut tree – glad the branches that were serving an important purpose were saved from being shed. Our natives do that in high winds – I can’t keep up with the pruning, so nature takes over sometimes!

Sorry there was no rain. Everyone is okay, I take it? Hope you get some rain soon!

I’m sorry you lost part of your tree in that wind. My elm trees do the same thing in high winds. I, too, am glad those falling branches didn’t fall on any structure…especially your new house roof! We’ve had terribly high winds this Spring, also. With blowing dust! I did get .3″ of rain Monday…very thankful for that. Hope you get some rain soon.
Blessings!

Hey there, haven’t been around in a while. Sad about the tree and isn’t this dry windy hot stuff enough already. It’s only May! Glad the swing is still hanging and aren’t those climbing trees the best!?
