Waiting for Hay—Tuesday, July 21, 2014

Baling-HayWe have one field done.

OutAnother to go.

The gentleman who called and said he wanted to come down on Friday (of last week) to check out the hay for purchase right in the field.

Never showed up.  Hay doesn’t wait.  It gets dry to one point and then starts to become crispy sticks…no hay anymore.

Some people just don’t do what they say they will do. Oh, well, life goes on and so do we.  🙂

So we had to go ahead and bale hay.  We hauled one field last night.  Then probably on Wednesday Terry will get the other field baled so we can haul that evening.

Sun-on-hay

Busy, busy!

Your farm friend,

Linda

  1. Rude man! That would make me cross. I’d make a point of calling him really early in the morning (4am should do it) and ask if he’s still coming… That alfalfa is looking good, nice and green.

  2. I’ve been thinking about you and Celi so much lately…you know I don’t have a farm, but there are farms all around us here, and the machines have been working day and night cutting and baling hay this past week. Yesterday, the big big big truck came out and hauled it all away. Happy working! Take care, Miss L.

  3. The farmer has this minute passed the window on his way to shake up the hay we have got down, prior to going to a funeral. It is hot and dry here and with a bit of luck, as this field is on a South facing slope, the hay should be ready for baling tomorrow afternoon. It is always a reliefwhen it is in. As to time-wasters – they will always be around, sadly.

  4. Sorry to hear about your troubles with people in Colorado. It doesn’t get much different here in Missouri. Hopefully you don’t have the heat we do or else that hay would have withered away before you could even have an interested buyer! Best of luck!

  5. Glad the haying is moving along for you. I really dislike it when people say they will come but then never show up….grrrrr! Happens too often these days.

Pretty pictures! Be careful in the heat. Blessings!

  6. Hay waits for no one is right! We are cutting down some today after a short refreshing trip to The Black Hills.
I reied to your email. Did you get it? My phone has been acting up lately. We have much better tower here in central SD than we did in WY but still can be sketchy.

  7. Hi, things going good here in south central Kansas. Had enough rain the last 2 months that the crops are doing good. Wheat not so much, but that is wheat.
That is my pet pive is folks not letting a person know the are not coming. Do hope he is ok though.
The bales are the same size Harry and I hauled when we were home.

  8. I think this happens more and more often these days. People just don’t feel obligated to do what they say they will anymore, well some people anyway. Loved the photos of baling hay! We don’t bale our own, but it seems like we are always unloading into the barn on the hottest day of the year! I also love to write about our small farm on http://www.iheartcountryheaven.com. Feel free to check it out if you’re interested! Happy Farming!
