This is Shannon’s rescue Mule. She is around 20 years old.
It’s taken her a long time to trust all of us, but she has finally learned we are all family.
And she is part of our family. Her favorite person is Terry, but she likes Shannon and me a lot.
She loves massage, special apple treats, cookies, and being with T’Atat and Glory Bee.
We have finally figured out she was trained to pack and ride/ saddle. She also will follow without a lead, and never strays. She was trained very well and loved well when young.
The damage came from all those years in between. At one point she was sold 19 times in two years.
Shannon got her from the meat man (she was going to be sold for slaughter in Mexico).
Meet LaVerne, the sweetest mule anyone could ask for.
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,
Linda

A stable I used to work at had a mule, and next to “my” appaloosa it was the smartest thing on four legs, and maybe brighter than most on two.

They are very bright. And very protective of their area. 🙂

It took her a spell to realize she was finally safe, but she understands now. 🙂

She is a huge delight. We had Lady Mule, but she just couldn’t settle it. She went to live with a huge pack train and did very well. Now we have LaVerne who is a big pet.

Good for you. That’s the downside of banning slaughter in the US. Animals get shipped to Mexico where humane slaughter rules are sadly lacking. That is if the poor creatures survive the ride there.

I know. It’s a horrible ending to a life.
