LOL, I love skunks, but that one was sure giving a warning with that tail up and ready to go, I would have been backing up fast as well, if its front feet was stomping o my.
But truly I do like skunks, not when they spay the dogs or spray to close to the farm or house, no one likes that.. but man I do love them for their rat, mouse killing abliity’s.
The farm cats do a good job on the mice, smaller rats and moles and so on.. but at a certain point each year either a weasel or a skunk will move in and take out a huge number of the BIG norway rats and drop the population down.
As the skunks never bother my chickens or other fowl, and they rarely even steal a egg, compared to the weasel which can be fine for weeks living in the wood pile nad then suddenly if you are not careful, its a blood bath in the chicken or fowl pens.
I used to have a really good ratter in my old dog freya and my new boy Remmi rat hunts but he is to big for alot of spaces. Till then I will be happy to see the skunk in the fall/early winter move in to the big shed area and know that in a few weeks it will move on.

THey are good mousers. But they do hurt and kill hens. I don’t kill them, but I do relocate sometimes.
