Rhode Island Red Roosters

what

Aren’t they just the best?  They are gentle, kind to their hens (I have two roosters and 15 hens) and randomly try to be a bigger rooster than my husband and I.  So far they are still lower than us on the pecking order.

on-the-look-out

One of the roosters likes to stand up here and keep guard.  They really do a nice job of being a rooster!

  1. I am very seriously thinking about getting some chickens! And your post really makes me want some now.I would probably have to keep them in a lot because I have a Rottweiler and a Boxer. They wouldn’t bite a biscuit but I am afraid they would kill them .
    Your rooster is so pretty.

  2. We decided to get rid of our Red rooster. He was just too mean, and the kids were scared to death of him. They are pretty but can be fiesty for sure! We have Orpingtons now. Much more gentle.

  3. I once raised a Rhode Island Red from the time it hatched to the time we had to give him away. It followed me all over the house-it was such a sweet little guy.
    Have a great weekend.
