Step 6- Marking Out

down-the-row-step-6

Because Terry likes to irrigate before he plants, step 6 is marking out the rows

step-6-marking

This is always my favorite part.  I love seeing the fields all marked and ready for the first water to come hurtling down each and every furrow.

  1. Lots of hard work. I went for a walk this evening and they have water in the ditch…just last week I took pics of it with snow on the dry floor of it. Green is the next step.

  2. Even though we are farmers too, this is all new to me and I find it fascinating. I am really glad you are doing this series. In this area irrigation is very uncommon so it is interesting to learn about it.

  3. Very Interesting..your farming is different there. I assume that the water from the ditch goes down the furrows.. your soil looks like mostly clay..it is very light colored..at least it shows up that way in photographs. Years ago in a soils class I learned how to test the soil for texture, by taking a glob of soil and wetting it and then rolling it between your thumb and forefinger and the more it ribbons up before folding over , the more clay you have. We used to visit different fields..it was interesting. 🙂
