Almost to First Cutting of Hay

It won’t be long now, maybe two weeks, maybe less.  The hay is coming into its full glory.  As soon as it starts to bloom it will be time to cut hay for the first time this season.

Terry loves ‘making hay’.  The dry alfalfa kind (not the other kind, oh, wait, hum, okay.  I’m getting off the subject).

So while we wait to harvest hay, we will still be watering the corn and the hay, and Terry will plant the pinto beans, and then it will be haying time!

Not long now!

  1. Alfalfa is one of my favorite smells ever! (I’m weird, I know.) I also roll down my windows whenever we are in Lancaster, PA to smell the cows. Drives my husband nuts.

  2. I look forward to the first cut of the season, I love the way the air smells. The first cut of the season here is June 16th, how I remember these it’s my oldest son Kristopher’s birthday. We held some great farm related birthday parties when he was little. I miss those days!

  3. He likes making hay – eh? :0) You’re funny!

Looks good! And you grow pinto beans? AWESOME! I cook a big pot of those almost every week! (hence the “burritos” part of my blog title!!)

  4. If we can afford to get a tractor in the next year or two (first, I need a job!!), then we want to put in hay. Hubby’s done it before, and he really wants to grow our own instead of needing to buy it for the horses!
