When I got home last night I had a surprise package waiting for me; a delightful little book on Yankee Weather Proverbs!
I immediately sat down and started reading.

For people who live by the land, or for those who scan the skies, this book is a wonder. Here is one, we in the west also tout: “When robins leave early, expect an early winter” here is another, “Purple or very dark blue clouds indicate snow as do long flat banks of dark-colored clouds” —or “The first frost in autumn will be exactly six months after the first thunderstorm of the spring”
There are many more, but this gives you an idea.
Thank you so much, Mountain Woman, I am very surprised and grateful!
Wow! What an interesting book. You will have to pick a few and see if they are true, then post about it.
Great gift!

I’m so glad you like it. I loved the illustrations and it’s just a cozy kind of book.
The robins left here in late July and they aren’t supposed to leave until September so who knows. Right now it is still unseasonably warm but it could turn any moment.

Looks like a nice book! Those sayings are often very true. I like to read the farmer’s Almanas and this year it predicts an extremely cold winter for most of the country.

Even if the title and subject didn’t sound interesting, I’d pick that book up because of the fabulous artwork on the cover. Yeah, yeah, I know… ;-).

What a cool book. Tell me when the first snow will be? Well our mountains have already had snow, but I mean down here. Loved the cloud pictures.
By the way are you still writing your book? I have been trying to write for the grandkids…stories about being a girl in my time (o: It takes a lot of discipline and I am not very good at it. Discipline that is (o:

Mountain Woman is such a nice person! What a nice surprise and an interesting book. That’s pretty cool about how to know when the first frost will be, never heard of that before. I’ll try to remember to note the date of our first spring thunderstorm next year.
