The Music of Winter on the Land

Of course there is snow

And the wind howls

The roads become impassible

(Grand Mesa, Colorado December 2009)

But there is music

Something that really can’t be explained, but if you live, or work, or walk on the land you will understand.

For you will have experienced it.

Every environment, has its own music-its rhythms

Its flow, grace notes, and harmonies

It comes, I think, from your soul and a reaching out to the spirit of the land.

Quite beautiful and surreal! However, you may keep the snow. Makes me shiver just looking at it! Then again when January and February arrive here, I’ll no doubt be crying for some snow!!
Makes me wonder how on earth, will you be able to dry out the mess after that broken pipe!!

  2. Your wonderful words just pulled me in and made me feel like I was right there! And I so agree with what you said. There is kinship we all feel to the land that we love. Just a lovely post! blessings,Kathleen

  3. Linda, how lovely and the photographs were amazing too. Although I know the language and rhythm of Vermont, I’m just learning about it here on this farm. So different one place from another but open land, farms, are such a gift.

  4. I know. We got slammed with snow this weekend (20+ inches) and I was telling James how I used to lay really still in the morning and listen to the way the sounds traveled through the air to see if it had snowed. Then I’d jump up and look out my window. Sometimes I was right and sometimes, well, I think I was so anxious for snow I just imagined it 🙂

  5. Beautiful song! Our music is a little different here because of a different landscape, but I know what you mean. Everything works in harmony in nature. And when I’m out in it, all my troubles are lifted away…
