Checkers 1999-2010

Checkers, what a wonderful dog you were, we are Thankful that you got to come live with Mom-Mom and the little kids.  I know that the first part of your life was good, you had a family and they loved you.  And I know it was bad and not easy for you to understand why they left. 

When you came to us you were straved not only for food and water, but for love.  I’m glad you found it with the little grandchildren!  You lived on thier porch and gladly herded them here and there and everywhere.

You and Fuzzy were the best of friends and loved to go ‘farming’ together.

These last few weeks were hard on you, but now you are free over the Rainbow bridge.

You will be missed, Checkers.  You will.

  6. I am sorry for your loss too!
    My uncle was a total dog lover, so i imagine that it’s quite possible that he and Checkers have found each other on the other side and playing ball and stick already!

  13. My sympathies. Checkers looks border collie, a fine and wise breed. Reminds me of Bingo, my parents’ last farm dog. He retired with them to the little house in town. Taking him for walks probably was better for their health than anything the doctors did. So sorry your friend is gone. But I’m sure he will always be in your hearts.

  14. so sorry to hear about your friend. I had to have my cat of 16 years put down on monday. he had a stroke and could not use his back legs and then went in to a coma. I miss my friend so much. I know this is very hard and I did have a number of tears as I watched him slip away.

  18. It’s so painful to lose pets. They are members of the family. Animals are gifts. The Lord has his eye upon the sparrow, knowing each one, and I know the Lord knew every step that Checkers made.

    Praying for your heart, that you would be comforted.

  22. Lynn-It does. And Misty doesn’t plan ever getting another dog. (That won’t last as people always drop off dogs my her house). So he will be very lonely. Fuzzy is old also, I would hate to lose him too.

    TinaMarie-Misty isn’t, but the kids seem to be handling in well. Fuzzy is having a hard time.

    Mieke/Hi-D/Kath-And free from pain. She was having trouble seeing and hearing and walking.

    Ellie-Losing these furry little personalities is hard. They are loyal and funny and delightful to be around. They do leave an empty spot in our lives.

    I am sorry for you for losing your kitty, 16 years really is a long time and leaves a huge hole in one’s life.

  23. i am very sorry Linda, it is never easy to lose a best friend..but I bet Checkers left lots of paw prints on your heart..they are yours to treasure forever. Give Fuzzy an extra pat on the head..poor guy..it is hard for them to understand..they just know things are different:(

  27. Cotton Lady-That you. No it really never is. We think she must have had a heart attack and died in her sleep. If anyone could choose that would be the way to go.

    Whit-What a neat idea! I really am sorry that you lost your uncle. He sounded like he was lots of fun for a shy little girl.

    Linda-Winter is hard on animals, for sure if they are already old. As you know with the loss of your cat.

    Michele-I had a long talk with him. The first couple of days were hard, but he seems better.

  28. Linda I’m sorry you guys lost Checkers what a cutie but I have to ask. How did Checkers come to you and what happened to the previous owners that left Checkers starved for ….well everything. I am glad Checkers found a happy home with you.

  30. Janice-The people who owned her moved out of their house and just left her and an elderly dog. Poof! They were gone. It was weeks before one of the neighbors noticed that the dogs were still living there and there was no food. She put an ad in the paper and the kids went and picked her up. The elderly dog passed.

    Checkers was five when the kids got her. She and Fuzzy were best of friends.

  32. Oh, I have tears in my eyes reading this. I am so very sorry. I am happy that Checkers found love and a good family in the second part of his life.
