The Series

The lovely January thaw came, as you saw in the photo of our driveway.

Then the second day of the melt our yard turned to m.u.d.!

But, oh, well!  We have to have mud to have dry soil.

 Then day three:

Back to the deep freeze.

  30* today at noon.

Only 6 weeks left of winter (I hope).

Linda

(Boy,  am I ever ready)

  1. When the sun is out and the wind is still,
You’re one month on in the middle of May.
But if you so much as dare to speak,
A cloud comes over the sunlit arch,
A wind comes off a frozen peak,
And you’re two months back in the middle of March….erm January. Sorry Robert Frost

  2. Hi Linda,
I remember growing up in Switzerland what it’s like when snow turns into mush. AND it’s still cold as well. I much prefer the sunny hot Queensland weather.
    Cheers,

  3. We had 50’s today with rain and calling for floods. But by this weekend it is supposed to be back in the 20’s and down in the single digits at night again! With of course snow flurries! I really can wait until mud season that is for sure!

  4. Hi Linda

Well you can have that slushy mud! Looks awful.
Very sauna like here in Brisbane and the lovely coolish nights we have so far unexpectedly been having this summer, have gone.
Last night was horrible, so March can’t come quick enough. I can tolerate the daylight hours of the heat, but not the steamy nights!
Today is “Australia Day” – plenty of activities, especially the ceremonies for the new citizens. There will be flags all over the place. My brother is organising the Military part here at Southbank, he wanted me to come, but I am not a crowd person, nor do I approve of the antics of some of the “Zombie” Brigade, they just seem to go to be pests! The Police will no doubt be kept quite busy.

    Cheers
    Colin
ps: Every day you’ll be getting closer to the warmer weather – think positively!!!

  5. Brrrrrr! Looks like what is happening around here, except I think we will be in the mud stage a lot longer than you. Or? More snow? Hmmm. 6 weeks? Well I wanted rain and I got a lot more wet than I thought I would.

  6. That is the trouble with beautiful snow it turns to slush. At the moment I could run out and roll in the snow to cool off. A hot humid day today, all week in fact.

  7. it has been nice and warm here, but he gave a little tease on the news about snow in the near future. Oh well. Frankly I don’t really plan on green and warm till June…if then. Think I need to be a snowbird…. but how do you leave your family all here…oh well. I can take the cold (o:

  8. Oh, Linda, what a mess! How does Fuzzy like it? My Lucky would be mud head to toe and she hates baths.
We are so sandy here that the mud usually doesn’t last long. We have had 50-65 mph winds lately with blowing sand. Hope that does not harbor what’s ahead for spring. Thursday we are to get another snow-about 1-4 inches. That should paralyze west Texas!! Do you have a 4-wheel drive for work?
    Take care.

  9. It is still a little early for mud season. So I guess you are right back to snow season. As we get older does it seem to you that the icky seasons get longer and longer?

  10. Well I think snow must be better than persistent muddy slop. That’s all we get around here. And it’s getting worse by the day…

Better be looking for P. Phil to see if he sees his shadow. 🙂

  11. YOU warned me WAAAAYYYYY ahead of time that this was gonna be a buster of a winter and you weren’t kidding. We got 10 feet of snow in the Sierras last week and it’s still coming. And we’re already over our rainfall yearly total for our area. LOVIN’ THIS! Can’t wait to see all the spring waterfalls we’re gonna find during spring four wheeling!

Glad the mud froze over for a little while longer. 🙂

  12. Spring is just around the corner. Which is good for you and bad for me as spring means HOT weather is soon coming again to this desert in Arizona. Oh, how I hate it. Six months of over one hundred degrees. Every year I say I want to move. But…money talks and my mortgage isn’t very large.

  13. We got up to 60 degrees yesterday, with a ton of rain! Now the creek is flooded pretty bad. Weather can be so strange. We’ll probably be back to cold here soon. Spring is coming!!! (sooner or later, right 🙂

  14. I hate to say it because I usually boast about loving snow and the north east so much… however… I am so sick and tired of the winter. I feel confined, my chickens are picking on eachother, my dogs are stir crazy, I want to bust out my gardening gloves and my motorcycle and enjoy the fresh warm air.

    *sniffle*
