The Cows Leave— Watching Them Go Always Makes Me Think of the Song Rawhide

Keep movin’, movin’, movin’,
Though they’re disapprovin’,
Keep them doggies movin’ Rawhide!

Move ’em on, head ’em up,
Head ’em up, move ’em out,
Move ’em on, head ’em out Rawhide!
Set ’em out, ride ’em in
Ride ’em in, let ’em out,
Cut ’em out, ride ’em in Rawhide.

Another storm was to blow in last night (and it did); the rancher decided he needed to get the cows onto new pasture and bedded down before it hit.

We had rain and 40 mile an hour wind this morning.  Still all in all the brunt of the storm missed us.

Tractor work will start tomorrow if the wind can dry everything out enough.

Yeah! Spring is here!

Boy, am I ever ready.  But I guess you knew that!

Linda

  1. Hi Linda, Glad the brunt of the storm missed you. We are having a gorgeous day here in TN today–but they say it will get cold and rainy/snowy on Sun/Mon. Yuk!!!!!

I remember “Rawhide”…… Loved that Frankie Lane music… Awe–the memories.

Have a good weekend. Good Luck with the tractor work.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  2. Awesome pictures of the cows moving. I always wanted to live on a ranch up there somewhere. Lucky you.

Lucky NOT you in all that Denver traffic. We’ve been through that tunnel before and you’re right, the traffic can get UGLY. Oh, – glad you got your tractor unstuck, too!

  3. I liked that song. I lived in L0s Angeles a couple of years and found somebody had written words to the tune of Rawhide about the 405 freeway in LA. Funny.

Great pictures! Makes me want to jump right through them.

  4. My God! Was it that long ago when that song and show were on the airwaves? Like Linda of A. that song will be driving me mad for some time now! Not real sure if thanks in this case is warranted!!!!
Must be still pretty cold as it looks like some snow is on the ranges!

Well according to my calculations Spring officially starts in Colorado this weekend??? Autumn here has been going for 20 days now and is becoming the wettest so far for many, many years. This is due to the cyclonic conditions still occuring in the South Pacific region.

Did your Aberdeen Angus go off to these newer pastures also?

    Cheers

  5. Linda – your place looks gorgeous!! I can’t hardly wait until we move back to the west coast. Washington area. My older brother from Alaska is moving to western Colorado late this spring. His wife is from Grand Junction. Glad you enjoyed your time away.

  6. Guess we know how many years have gone by when we can remember the lyrics to that song and also remember Rowdy Yates was/is Clint Eastwood.

“I know what you’re thinking. “Did he fire six shots or only five?” Oh, wait, that’s Dirty Harry.

Glad your weather is easing up.

  7. Yep! the song did me in-will be hearing it in my sleep! Glad the storm mostly missed you-guess what-it’s going to hit ME! We have 40 mph winds now and snow headed this way. 4-6 inches for me possible, which is quite a bit for West Texas. Hope you get dry enuf to get into the fields. We had 1.2″ on Monday and now this, so will be awhile here.

    Take care…Blessings!

  8. I remember the song too. Lovely shots of the cows leaving. I can sense you are rearing to go. Glad you didn’t get the worst of the storm. As Colin says we have a cyclone ready to cross the coast north of here over the weekend. At least the temperatures have dropped and we feel normal again.

  9. Haha – we used to LOVE that show. One of the few channels we could get out in the country played reruns now and again – we caught it whenever we could! 🙂 Now I’ll have that song stuck in my head all day, too!

  10. Linda,

I remember that song and show very well so I guess it dates me. Long time ago and a different world. I loved your pictures and wish we could have cows 😦 So sorry for your weather and high winds. We were in the mid 60s yesterday and today with sun. Just can’t believe it because usually this time of year, we are still knee deep in snow. Sending you sunshine and warmth.

  11. Happy First Day of Spring!
I love that old song. And I love the photos of the “round up.” Glad the cows got settled before the storm moved in your area. Hope Spring gets to your house soon.
