A Call on the Ditch

The onion guys have made a call on the ditch.  Meaning they want water.

Because of the weather, the Ditch Company is behind.  They just finished cleaning our canal.

This is what it looked like before the backhoe started in.

Normally the water is turned in and flows by our place before March 30th.  This gives you an idea how far behind everyone is.

Anyway, the sun is shinning here today, and for me, that is always a good thing.

  1. Water in canals is a very good thing. The engineering that brings water to farmers all over an area by canals is amazing. And the organization that provides for each farm a turn at irrigation is also remarkable. Maybe the weird weather that has put farmers behind will provide extra sun and rain later. Could hope. Are the onions planted by seeds or sets?

  2. Hi Linda, We’ve got storms and cold weather coming our way now…. Hope it doesn’t freeze. I’d hate to lose all of our flowers…. Old Mother Nature has a mind of her own, doesn’t she????

Hope the Ditch Company gets their work done soon for all of you…..

    Take care..
    Hugs,

  3. Wow, you guys have really been busy! Sorry I haven’t had much time to visit lately ! You’ve your building about done, the plowing, the irrigation ditch. You’re ready for spring planting – what’s with the weather this year??? We never hardly get any snow – no more than a dusting, and it’s snowed 3 times here this winter. And I hear New England is now getting record hot temps! What’s it gonna do next?

I got my garden in, and instead of our usual spring rains, we’ve been having 80+ temps (until today – a little cooler) and I’m having to run the sprinklers on my little plot. It should be an interesting year for crops – hope it’s good to ya’ll farmers. We couldn’t make it without ya! Farming is grossly underpaid but so very necessary to our lives. I’m a great FAN!
