Finally we are here! The first real sign of spring.
The Ditch Rider was telling us that there are more onions planted this year than previous years. Onion prices are high $60 for a 50 pound sack, so just like any gambler all most everyone (not us) is jumping on the Onion roulette wheel.
What always happens by the time harvest comes round for our area the price falls to normal levels $22.00 for a 100 pound sack, or even lower. But just like Deal or No Deal if you ‘hit the market just right’ you might have the big money in your suitcase.

Looks great Linda. Is this water released from dams or reservoirs from river systems in the hills/mountains that we see in some of your photos? I guess when the Qld flood waters eventually reach Mildura in the fruit growing area on the SA/NSW/VIC border area, something similar will occur. The collective result will be plenty of happy faces! Still they have to wait until the end of May!
However, in your area, it is now go, go, go!!!!

Fun to see the before and after of the canal water. Looks like a good stream. Do you have to have a lot of special equipment to harvest onions? I’ve driven by fields at harvest time and the whole valley smelled like ONIONS.

Sure glad to see the water has arrived, onions, I would of never thought! It seems like one person will doing something different and the next thing you know everyone wants to get on the band wagon and it sometimes never pays to do that. To early in the year sometimes to know what the rest will bring.

A restaurant owner told me that onion prices went up very quickly over the past couple of weeks, but we haven’t found any news about what is causing this.
