This Weekend

Another hole in the pocketbook is taking place as I write this; fertilizer is being applied to new corn ground and the alfalfa fields.  That stuff just keeps on climbing and climbing in costs.

 {{{{Shudder}}}}.

Next huge cost will be the seed, but I’ll think of that later.

For this weekend I’m going to mow the lawn…dig out some flower beds and wash windows.

 All happy signs of spring!

Linda

  1. Seems like the price of EVERYTHING just keeps rising… Even things like a gallon of milk or a dozen eggs have doubled in price this past year—and will just continue to rise. What has happened to our country???? Scary!!!

Looks like you are going to be busy this weekend. We’ll be doing alot of the same things…. Good Luck!!!!! I keep telling myself that it is EXERCISE which I “NEED”…. ha

  2. I’m scared to even price field seed this year – I can only imagine how much fertilizer costs have risen. It’s scary for sure.

You have a busy weekend planned – it’s amazing your going to mow your grass! Things are growing here but not that fast 🙂

    Enjoy ~

  3. Ouch. So much invested with the hope against odds that Mother Nature will be kind. Most people who pick through things along the produce and cereal aisle have no clue what got that stuff there.

  4. It looks like some GREEN in your lawn! Isn’t is great?! Had a hard freeze night before last and my peas look a little yellow, hope they survive. I have not been doing my own lawn work since back surgery 4 years ago, I kindof miss it. I never minded mowing the lawn-instant gratification. I am going to be planting my veggie beds into some flowers, since this summers vacation will be knee replacement surgery! Want to at least be able to look at something pretty.

I know how you feel about the cost of fertilizer etc. It’s outrageous! Cotton seed is now about $220 a bag! Would love to see it go down. Don’t think some realize how much everything costs to get a crop into the field. Take care, don’t work too hard.

    Blessings!

The weather of Colorado is amazing! One day your blogs show snow, next storms and now this delightful photo of green grass and SUNSHINE!
Thanks for all that water information – from the source to where it ends up for the irrigation of the crops.
How is the calf population these days? Should be a few extra calves on the ground by now?

    Cheers

  6. Oh I feel your pain. The latest thing in CA is the conversion of diesel trucks to meet the new air quality standards. The retrofit costs 13 K each. We won’t be able to run our big trucks unless they have this installed by 2013. We are dreading eating this cost. Business is getting crazy expensive to run.

  7. We don’t use fertilizer or seed on near the scale that you do, but it is ridiculous, the way the prices keep going up. And the profits you make don’t increase accordingly, do they? We have to wake up and stop squeezing our producers to the point where they can no longer produce anything!

  9. Hi Linda, I’m so glad to hear you are having spring like weather-I’m not sure what to expect when we get home but I’m anxious to do some gardening! After experiencing the high cost of food in the Islands, I appreciate your hard work even more. Have a beautiful day friend and enjoy the sunshine.

  10. Spring is kinda slow coming but it is getting here as well. I think I heard a house wren today. Snow is all gone now.
One way that some farmers here are able to avoid high cost fertilizer is to let the hog confinement farms incorporate their manure on their land.
