Utah Flew into Our Part of Colorado Yesterday

45 m.p.h winds full of grit, sand, and dirt came in from Utah yesterday

Making work on the farm hard

And exhausting.  Fuzzy still enjoyed the first set of water.

But Terry and I came in more than tired.  Wind can be exhausting, then add in being hit with shards of sand, grit and dirt …

A new little calf joined our herd right has the worst of the storm started.  He was a little upset as his rough windy arrival in the world.

Momma and baby are doing fine.

Cold here today, but the wind stopped. That is a gift in an of itself.

Linda

  1. We also had a big wind storm with lightening yesterday and some rain…I thought the tiles were going to blow off the roof. It was a little intimidating…but weather can be like that…probably to put us back in our place in nature, LOL!

Will be going back to Washington State for the summer…back to our mini-ranch life——-

  2. Well Linda—You just need to tell Mr. Utah NOT to send his wind and sand to YOU…. That was a gift you could have done without!!!!

Congrats on the new baby Calf…. Maybe you can name the baby “Utah”…. ha ha

    Have a BETTER day today!!!
    Hugs,

  3. We are having high winds again today. So that is messing up Dirk’s trucking schedule-guess they dont like to apply fertilizer when its so blasted windy.
But all this wind should dry out the yard where I get my garden’s “fertilizer” from. 🙂

  4. Good thing Fuzzy is fuzzy. Wind is the worst kind of weather. And it always combines with something else–dirt, rain, snow–to make life miserable. We had another blizzard this morning. That’s three heavy snow storms since the third. Dump huge wet flakes, close school and then the temp rises and it all melts. Someone bi-polar psycho has the control of storms here.

You new calf is a beauty.

  5. I have read that during the early days of the west being settled that women would go a bit side ways because of the wind, it also happened during the dust bowl years. Grit in everything pushed them right to the end of themselves.

  6. It is blowing right now…
I washed off some lawn furniture and toys early this morning…it was nice and sunny and warmish
    then this cold wind started…
hope it blows itself out before the kids are here to play tomorrow
I am so tired of keeping them in
    I bet you are tired
    wind exhaust me too

  7. Here on the eastern plains of Colorado the wind is still blowing fiercely. We lost part of a door on our workshop during the night, and a trash barrel flew down the street. I’m about to take my second shower of the day because every time I go out, I get dirt, sand and grit in my hair and mouth and on my clothes. Not pleasant at all.

Tell Utah to keep it’s winds. We really don’t need them! Vikki at http://vikkisverandah.blogspot.com

  8. Good morning Linda

Those winds must be driving you and Terry, nuts!
The cow certainly picked a great time to calve and now by the
look of the calf, she will have a full time job cleaning off the
    muck and dust!

Just like Lucy, I had a double look at the mass of hair in the ditch,
and thought, good God, Linda has had enough of this weather and is
attempting to drown herself!!!! ha ha.

Great informative post as usual on life on a “ranch in Colorado”.
    Cheers

  9. We shared your winds today. Blowing dust and grit made even worse by the plumber digging and putting in new water pipes for the chicken house. If one doesn’t brace oneself you can blow sideways! Hate being out in it, but at times one must. The wind is still blowing a gale and is to keep up until Friday!! 😦 I always look forward to Spring, just not the winds.

    Adorable little calf! Blessings, CottonLady

  10. Yecch! Dust storms are not fun, and the dust cleanup is a pain in the butt. What is it about running water that makes dogs happy? Too cute.. 🙂

  11. Wind can be terrible. We had a beautiful blue sky and sunshine yesterday … with a strong cold wind from the North. Looks so nice from inside but I get a headache from in as soon as I go out. Spring has it’s ups and downs…

  12. What a way for poor Fuzzy to get a new hairdo! Calf is so cute, so do you have a heifer or lil bull? How rude for Utah to come and visit and not call first!
