The secret to a smooth, slightly sloped (graded) field is the use of the leveler. It’s important to make sure the water will run down-hill, that there are no flat spots for the water to collect and pool and no giant humps for the water to try to run up over.

After leveling, Terry marks the field out and starts the water. We now have water in both alfalfa fields, the soon to be a corn field, and this one which will raise corn. The bean field is just ripped, rolled and marked. It’s nice to not have to work very hard on one crop. Saves time, fuel, therefore Money!!!

Nice work. When the fields are flat it takes a good eye and maybe some technology to make sure the water will flow the right way.

Everything is looking great Linda and that beautiful blue sky!
You both must feel a great sense of accomplishment at the end of the day ~
We are hoping to rototill tomorrow and start planting cold hardy crops by the weekend. All depends on what “pops” up that requires attention between now and then !
Take care ~

The work of a farmer never ends. Of course, Terry loves it so does that really make it work?

You have no idea how bad I need this thing in my backyard. Right now it resembles the surface of the moon – only lumpier. 🙂

Nearly ready to plant. Glad the weather has been good for this part of the work. We can’t even grow beans in our veggie patch let alone a field of them.

My yard is not much bigger then that leveler!! I want to live with you, but I don’t think I would be a good farmer, I don’t have a green thumb!
Oh, but I could take good care of all the animals!!
