The pears are blooming, but night temperatures dropped to 31* so of course they froze.
The large orchards in our area smudged or ran wind towers, but small orchards more than likely lost thier crops.
First the apricots and now the pears. Cherries and prunes and apples will be blooming soon.
The snow hit the hills and the mountains around us, which I am very thankful for. We had a really wonderful (but very cold) rain during the night. It was delightful to wake up to a clean and fresh world this morning.
More rain and snow predicted until Friday, which means more freezing temperatures.
Linda

Oh good grief, enough snow already! Doesn’t Mother nature know it is almost May? We’ve had a colder than normal spring also. That is according to the locals, which I’m not yet. We’ve got tiny limes on our tree and the fuzzy little peaches. The tomatoes are blooming and setting fruit and the herb garden is going nuts. My cilantro needs to be given a rather stern hair cut. The strawberries are doing well and if I can keep the squirrels away from them I’d be eating them with a week or two.

Linda,
Do you have fruit trees? Did your blossoms freeze? What a pain. We are finally having some beautiful spring weather here in Pa.

Night rain does have a tendency to sooth the soul, it does feel so nice to start the day feeling like everything is freshened up. That is a very impressive amount of pear blossoms…hopefully it will mean an impressive amount of bounty.

The blossoms are glorious! Maybe all that cold weather will cut back on the grasshopper crop.

I am embarrassed to say that I don’t think I’ve seen a pear tree before. How beautiful they are! Here in AZ we have oranges and grapefruit and while they are not nearly so lovely, their fragrance is magical.

That must be so devastating for the orchardists. Were they your pears or another farmer’s.

That is really too bad about the freeze, I hope you didn’t lose all of your fruit crop because of it. The pictures are beautiful, I just love the blossoms on them in the spring.

Too bad about the freeze, Linda…. We have a freeze watch out for tonight… It’s been rainy and cold (cold for us this time of year) all day… Supposed to go down into the low to mid 30’s tonight… YIPES!!!!!
Love your Pear blooms… Sorry to hear that they froze… How sad is that. Oh –that Mother Nature can be so cruel.
Hugs,
