Storm Blowing In

My drive to work in Paonia today was beautiful!  Just beautiful!  The whole day has been a day of wonder… when I woke up this morning a fox was sitting on the back door steps.  I think he was as shocked as I was that I opened the door and found him/her there.

Now the cat wasn’t too happy about it, Sammy changed his mind real fast about not wanting to go outside.

He didn’t need to worry … the fox left just a fast as a blink of an eye.  I went out and checked to make sure he was gone and that the chickens were safe.  Still Sammy stayed in the house until it was starting to get lighter in the sky, then he must have decided that the fox would be gone and went out.

We have a storm coming in today/night with rain and snow so I suppose the colors will soon be gone.  The earth has turned enough that we are now looking at snow.

Our corn is still to high of moisture to start combining…we are coming in around 20%.  The rain will keep the moisture up there, but once we start having snow we should see the air starting to dry out and the moisture in the corn dropping

  1. A fox on the doorstep — that certainly is a fascinating start to the day. I like the scenery in your photo — what a wonderful landscape.
I hope you are soon able to get your corn harvested. If it will help the corn to dry, please feel free to send any unwanted rain our way.

  2. Smart kitty. It looks like it’s already raining around Delta. It’s going to be doing the same here by tomorrow. It may not get this warm again. Everyday without snow is gravy for me.

  3. Hi Linda

A very sensible cat – quite a rarity with felines!
If, in October you are starting to get snow, how on earth do you harvest
the corn which is by now dry??
Sorry for appearing to be so ignorant on cropping matters, but it doesn’t snow
in Brisbane – sometimes up around Stanthorpe and Toowomba, but it is a rarity.
From my skiing days back in the 60’s and 70’s on the Australian skiing areas, the
snow was not only cold but wet!
This probably will be the most inane comment on this blog post – sorry!
    Cheers

  4. Sammy is a real smart guy! We had a storm too that wiped most of the leaves right off the trees. Not much of a show this fall compared to some years, but there were a few nice trees. Hope you get the weather you need to get your corn dried down.

  5. Not everyone wakes up with a fox on their doorstep!

Happy to hear your corn crop is coming in so good.

We’ve had a few more great fall days to savor too. Snow possible this weekend. I really hate to say goodbye to the warm air and leafy trees.
