It is suppose to drop to -11 here tonight. Oh, well…guess we just have to travel through this cold to get to the other side of it. I think we are suppose to have somewhat warmer weather by the weekend.
Last time I looked the website said we have the potential to get all the way up to 31* on Saturday and 35* on Sunday. Pretty cold for me, but Terry is still going to the Annual Farm Consignment Auction. I asked him if it isn’t a wee bit too cold…he looked at me with horror in his eyes and flatly stated “all I have do is bundle up”. Okay, I get it. It’s never to cold for an auction.
Our neighbor is still trying to get his corn in. Most of the corn in the area is in, but a few guys are still hitting 15% or higher.
This sure has been an odd year for corn.
Okay, if you are over this way…guess we will see you at the auction on Saturday and Sunday. If not I’ll keep you posted on events.
Linda

My husband would say the same, bundle up! He loves auctions when he can get to them.

-11F now THAT is cold (-23˚C). It would be much too cold for me to go anywhere, auction or otherwise. But good on Terry for braving it.

I just got done shoveling 20 inches of global warming….er….I mean, SNOW off of my driveway out to the street. 😉 Meanwhile the kids played in the snow. It took me three hours, but I managed to work up perspiration doing it. Tonight it is only supposed to get down to -7.
I sure wish that I could attend the auction this weekend. I’ll have to settle for a gun show.

Brrrrrr—don’t think I’ll make it to the auction, Linda!!!! But–you all be sure and ‘bundle up’….. It’s cold here too–but not nearly as cold as it is in your area.

I read about the cold weather in Colorado and I instantly thought of you. I know you’ll get through it but it’s hard sometimes. Spring can’t be far away now and then you’ll be warm again.

I’m playing catch up on reading blogs while I have a few minutes. I’m kind of rolling comments for several posts in to one, if that is ok!
The shots of your dogs are great, you caught something of each of their personalities. Neat!
My husband is an avid auction go-er also. I like to go too, but we each are usually attracted to different things. I love antiques which he considers junk and he is collects or acquires what I consider junk. Pieces of machinery we “just might use sometime”, or the ones “I bet I could sell that to so and so, he was looking for one just like that!” We both keep a lookout though for bargains on feed bunks, fencing supplies and things like that. However, don’t plan on getting portable corral panels at a bargain price at an auction sale, you can usually buy new ones cheaper!
We have decided we can’t hardly go to horse sales anymore. Even if we leave the checkbook and trailer at home, we still manage to buy a horse or two-usually a colt. Cattle sales can be bad if they are selling replacment heifers or bred cattle. I can’t hardly pass up a good Black Angus bull sale. (My husband is actually pretty tolerant about my buying bulls, believe it or not!)
Anyway, I hope warmer weather comes to stay down your way soon. I think we are a long way from it up here. We got another 10 inches of snow over the weekend and then the bottom fell out of the thermometer! We had minus 38 one morning this week. It is supposed to be in the low thirties today, (above!) and then start cooling down again. Long tough winter for people and cattle!

It has been a wild winter, kind of like an old fashioned one. Red Wing Black Birds are dear to my heart, I remember seeing them on the cat tails every summer as a kid.

Daryl got to enjoy your cold temps in Denver yesterday. Now he is in Billings trying to get in on the 30* they are to have today. But at least he was moving unlike Dirk who was stuck in IL for 24 hrs-70 miles from Chicago. All is good now and he is in Wichita!
Stay warm!!! There isnt an auction worth standing out in the cold for me either!! Hope Terry enjoys it tho!

I only go to the poultry auction. I only go there to sell birds. I get there as early as I can – at daybreak usually – so that even if I see something I absolutely HAVE to have, I won’t buy it. The sale part starts at 9 and I won’t wait around that long. Once I’m out of the parking lot, the urge to buy leaves me and I’m symptom-free again. Our local poultry auction is held in a lot next to Denio’s Farmer’s Market in Roseville, an absolutely HUGE place full of produce and people selling all sorts of junk. When we first started selling birds, we dropped them off early and were told we could come back at noon to pick up the cash. So we went across the street to Denio’s to pass the time. We spent $100 on stuff we didn’t need, went back to the poultry auction lot at noon and picked up our $25 and said, “Ain’t gonna do THAT again!” Do they have good coffee and donuts at your farm auction?

Now Linda you know a man could never pass up an equipment auction regardless of the weather! Hope you are staying warm dear friend. The weather here too is bitter cold, we have three or more feet of snow on the ground and more coming in tomorrow night. I gave up and bought snow shoes today! Blessings from snowy Maine!

Too cold for me. I’d be all bundled up in the house. Not enough clothes for an auction. If there were, I’d be unable to move under that many layers, so still stuck as home.
Hope you don’t freeze your you know what off.

Holy smokes Linda. That is cold. I don’t think I even breath in those temps.

So, what did he buy? I’m not sure I could “bundle up” enough to withstand those temps.
We’ve got another arctic cold front coming. I wish they’d keep their danged cold fronts in the arctic. 🙂 I’m all for sharing, but I think there’s a thing as too much sharing.
