The Lion Doth Roar

The storm is starting to leave our area, but it is still very cold.  We have a fire going in the woodstove….temperatures are hovering around 50* with wind sharp with rain and snow.

Feels more like February outside than late March, we are still having lots of wind.  Terry is stopped for the day…too windy (and besides he has a flat tire on the leveler). Misty works at the local elementary on Tuesday.

If the winds continue to blow this storm should be out of here soon.

Our one little calf is doing well.  We still have a couple of more cows to calf and then we are done.  We are NOT a big operation, just four cows and a part-time bull.  (We share the bull with another farmer just across the way….lots cheaper that way). We will probably keep this little heifer to add to our mini-herd.

You can see that the wind blew the hay all over the cows while I fed.  They were not very happy with me….seems like the female of all species really does like to look good all the time. 🙂

  1. We don’t have many cows either, we buy 2 steers every year and always have 2 that are just about ready to get put into the freezer soon! So, we have four half of the year. The snow we got the other day is gone and now we are supposed to get more tomorrow afternoon into thursday morning. We don’t get into the 50’s much, we had those for a couple of days and that was it.

  2. HI Linda, The cold weather is coming here –without snow. We may have bad storms and then one night of cold temperatures…. Guess we shouldn’t complain –but this is the time of year we always worry about freezes (once all of the flowers have started to bloom)…

Hope your little heifer makes it.. I am still thinking about those darn coyotes… Looks like the part-time bull did his job!!!!! ha ha

    Stay WARM.
    Hugs,

  3. It definitely does look as if March is going out like a lion in Colorado. Hopefully warmer weather will soon return. I assume your cow has forgiven you by now. Besides I’m sure she would have been even more upset if you hadn’t fed her.

  4. Haven’t been by for a little while and see I’ve missed out on two posts…but, better a bit late, hey? This baby heifer is too gorgeous…almost small enough to cuddle on your lap? I love your comment about the females wanting to look good all the time 🙂

I thought it was windy here, today…our Autumn winds having arrived strongly…but now I think I’m complaining for nothing, compared with what you’re contending with over there! Hope it all blows away, soon and you can get to enjoy Spring!

  5. Hi, I thought of you yesterday. The cowboys from the ranch a little ways from us were driving their cattle down the road in front of our house (a normal occurance). I always like to watch them……….and listen. I have not yet, gotten a photo, the woods surrounds our house and all you can see , are the images between the trees. I am too shy to go to the road, and I don’t want to cause a stampede………lol. The wind has been roaring around here as well, but no rain yet!Stay warm! blessings,Kathleen

  6. Crazy weather. We’ve been in the mid-50s mostly, with one day last week at 70 degrees! Now it is 40 degrees and sleeting. I guess that’s to be expected.

  7. I can’t imagine what I’d look like out in the weather all the time… Somehow those ladies do it with some kind of style.

Everyone here is complaining about all the rain. I’m kinda liking it and hoping for a cool summer.

  8. Oh, Linda, your pictures are beautiful but it isn’t cold there compared to here. We’re hovering around zero and getting snow dumped on us everyday. We had two days in the 40s and now it just is awful. What a long, depressing winter. Where is spring?

  9. The wind was nasty here too and not at all spring like..of course ours brought in Rain and sleet and ice and then snow..but the roads cleared quickly after the sun came out. The fields are looking good..Terry is keeping busy. Good to hear the Misty is learning the ropes:)

  10. Wind is horrible. It always gives me a headache. I’m glad we don’t get too much here mostly in August. The calf is a cutie and mum doesn’t look happy with you messing up her coat.
