The End and a New Beginning

After 16 years of work, I am finally ready to retire

The last day at work will be June 6th.

Life is extremly busy at this point.  Training the new person to take over what I was doing in Paonia, and splitting apart the rest of my work (I’m not being replaced at the main office) for the other two people at my level of employment.

Add in home life…well, it sure has been b.u.s.y.!  To say the very least.

So even though this is a ending…in many ways it is also a beginning.  My grandson says I’m graduating.  Maybe a ten-year-old is on to something.

Anyway, thought you might like to know…retirement is finally here and I’m really excited about it.

  1. I’m glad to hear that you are going to retire. I’m sure that you will not sit down on the front porch and rot away. You’ll keep busy and stay healthy.

  2. I retired on 08 after working 23 years on school food service, I love being retired but seem to stay busier now. I think I kept to a schedule with my house when I was working, now I tend to put off things until another day. My husband retired this year and now I am busier then before, he seems to think we need 3 meals a day now. I love having him home but we are still adjusting to that.
Thank you for the wonderful informative posts, I love reading about the farming and life in your part of the country.
Happy retirement, we will be in Germany in June so I will just tell you now.

  3. I’m excited and happy for you!! Yes, after you are home for a little while, you will wonder how you found time to work!! It will feel good not to have to answer to anyone but yourself and Terry. I absolutely love not having to work outside the home. But then I’m old!!! errr, older, I mean.

    Blessings and congratulations!

  5. Golly Linda- that’s in one month. Good for you. Enjoy yourself and dote on family. Please keep up the blog though, as it is so good. I always enjoy what you share and the pics tell a story too, besides being a ‘window to your world.’ Thanks for sharing.

I have your email to respond to, I’m just terribly behind. Got to run load a steer right this minute, but I’ll be back to write more!

  7. Congrats, Linda…. I love my retirement… I am busier than I ever was (as a workaholic) —and doing things that I never had time to do before… You will also find lots of new beginnings!!!!

  8. Wonderful and exciting for you. It finally hit me this week that I am really retired. I have so much more time now and so much less stress. I really quit my part-time insurance sales work a year ago. Wishing you a great summer and retirement. linda

  9. Congratulations!! You do know that now you will have less free time than ever as there is always something needed to be done on the farm don’t ya? LOL

  10. Here’s to a smooth transition! Just remember, if the people at the office scramble things so bad they need to call you for help…charge a big consulting fee.

  11. Congratulations!!

Funny that it will take 3 people to do the job that you did as a single employee. 🙂

Praying for many years of freedom from a desk ahead of you…time to spoil those grandkids right, eh?

    Whit

  12. Great! I’m retiring at the end of June. I can look to you for guidance – right now I’m a little concerned about not having a place to go every morning. Will I just sit at home and get fat? Turn into a bag lady or a cat hoarder? I suppose not, there’s always work on a farm. Then the concern is what will happen without my salary as a subsidy? Oh well, what a great adventure.

  13. Congratulations on your “graduation” —Love that concept. Hope you find time now to do some of the things that you’ve been putting off until you didn’t have to go to town every day.
