The Black Hills—Part 1

Things are really busy here again.  The 6 days off has us back up and running.  Terry is doing repairs on the two bean combines, getting them ready for next year’s harvest.  Get everything ready now so nothing is last minute next year.

The yard has frozen so I’ve been cleaning up the dead stuff.  I try to leave as many seeds and food items for the birds over the winter, but I do get rid of the weeds.  I also just finished planting the last of my tulips.

Anyway…..the four of us had picked out four things we would like to do or see while we were in the Black Hills.  Our motel was in Custer, which was a perfect location to travel to and from, it was really rather central to our needs.

We got in the afternoon so we still had time

to head out to Custer State Park to see Sylvan Lake, on Carolyn’s ‘want to see’ stops.

The lake was just beautiful!  The walk around the lake not hard and the colors delightful!

We pronouced the experience PERFECT!

On the way out of Custer State Park, we saw an American Bison

Terry and Carolyn were very patient with Wayne and I….we have our cameras out all the time. But those of you who blog so understand!

We all wanted to see Mount Rushmore, it was on Terry’s main “I want to see for sure list”

Amazing!

The walkway to the viewing site is outstanding also…each state is represented with flags and a bit of information about the state.

I so recommend everyone, if you get a chance to go…please take it, you will not be sorry.

Part 2 coming up next!

And I don’t know about you, but I enjoy things more when I can come home and blog about them.

  2. Mount Rushmore–never been, but want to. Your views of The Black Hills only make me want to go more. I’m impressed with how your Farmer works so hard to maintain his machinery. That is probably how you have been so successful in a business that has become a challenge for the small operations.

  4. I love the photos of the trip to the Black Hills and will definitely make the trip. By the way, I’ve published the first of a series of westerns and found your blog while looking for some information on colorado farming (The 4th book, due out in late 2012 deals with the post Civil War days in Wyoming and Colorado and features a family in Colorado’s San Luis Valley.)

Your yard has frozen? Wow. That’s amazing – we’re still above warm here – upper 80’s and this weekend up to 90! So “they” say….

    Thanks for sharing your trip!

  6. Mount Rushmore has always been on my bucket list but I want to see the lake now too. We’re talking about going one of these years……but we’ve been talking about it for years too 😉

  7. Is it true that Mt. Rushmore is off the beaten path—out in the middle of nowhere?
Thanks for sharing pictures of your trip.
I thought about y’all this week when I was in Wisconsin. Miles and miles of corn, just waiting to be the moisture level to be harvested. 🙂

  9. Amazing picture at Mt Rushmore. When we ere there in June, you couldn’t move with all the people. But it was an amazing site. Did you visit the ‘Crazy Horse Memorial’ too?
