Yesterday was ever so delightful! I hope yours was also.
Today we woke up to wind, which means it will blow all day and possibly blow in a storm. More than likely it will blow in a cold front, but that is okay, we are still doing ground work, nothing is planted yet, and no water.
ALTHOUGH!!!!!
The Uncompahgre Valley Water Users higher ups have decided that they WILL start the irrigation water today!
No April Fool’s either!
It will get to us by Friday or next Monday at the latest.
50% of normal. I would NOT want to be a ditch rider this year you can bet we are going to hear of water fights and uncivilized behavior when it comes to the water for the farms. All ready the subdivision people are complaining that they won’t have water (they do, they can use city water).
As I understand it, If we were over on the eastern slope around Sterling and Pueblo it wouldn’t be the subdivision people complaining, it would be the farmers also. The cities have all rights to the water FIRST.
But I’m not going there. The whole ‘water thing’ is just so emotional and frightening that I can’t really get my mind around it.
Terry and I will do what we have to do and be grateful that we have what we have. One never really knows what the rest of the growing season will bring, it could be normal.

I’m thinking about writing a column about water. Here in NY we generally take it for granted, but the rest of the country is a whole different world.. Thanks for giving me some ideas for research!

I’m glad to hear that the water is coming. I hope it gets to your farm without problems. I also hope there won’t be too many water fights, but that’s probably unrealistic. I guess some city dwellers don’t want to think seriously about their choice: water for their lawn or water for food to eat.

Hi Linda, Beautiful photos… Hope you get some RAIN. We have had ALOT this winter–including ALL day yesterday. However, today is pretty and not too cold… Yeah!!!!
Hope you do get your water soon… I did wonder about ‘fights’ over the amount of water… Hope people are civil and just do what you all are doing –and that is abiding by the ‘order’ –and cutting back on your crops…. BUT–I do hope that you get more RAIN –and that you end up with more water than they say you may get….

Pipe Laying! That should make you feel a little hopeful. I do hope the Boys are helping. No water on here yet. It will be interesting to see how much we get. I need to clean my ditch. Um, I kinda hate to ask, after last year, but is there any ditch burning going on in your neighbor hood? Hope not.

Linda, you are doing all farmers a service by personalizing the plight of farmers and the drought. It is so easy to not think about water until there is none, something brought home to me when my well went dry this winter. Luckily the well recovered enough to flush the toilet – sparingly. :)). Lots of magic thoughts that your water situation will also recover and you get the much needed rain.

The water arguments were bad enough between cities and farmers. Now the water-intensive fracking debate has entered the ring. I just want to turn off the news, plant some veggies and hope for rain!

So many of us take water for granted..it is good that you keep us thankful and aware of water struggles. Here the irrigators go even if it is raining..so wasteful.
