We have another storm coming in
It will probably be here tonight sometime.
The weather people say it will be another series of storms coming to us clear from the Hawaiian Islands
So….that means I have lots to get done before night fall.
Today is clean out the chicken house day…not a job I enjoy, but ones the hens delight in. When I’m done they will have lots of lush and rich hay to peck and scratch around in if the weather is too bad to go outside.
I use the hay from the baler. Terry always cleans out the baler every time he uses the baler….blows the dust and leaves off of it, greases everything up, then parks it under it’s very own shed until the next cutting of alfalfa. The hay that is taken out of the baler is mine to use around the farm. We used to feed it to the pigs, and the goats and the sheep, when we had them. I always gave a nice batch to the chickens and the the calves (if we had orphans) There isn’t tons of this lovely green leafy stuff, but over three cutting a summer I can gather up a nice little pile. We put the pile in the same building with the baler and then cover up the pile with a tarp to keep the loose pile together.
Sometimes I’ll find a yummy bone or two buried in the deep reaches of the pile just waiting to be brought out for a nice chewing. 🙂
So off I go to get some things done before the weather blows in here wet and nasty. The Farmer’s Almanac says “As November 21st is, so is the winter”. Looks like wet and nasty just might be predicted for our winter. (I say this because the storm is here until Saturday, then leaves and we have nice weather for a few more days. — Just storms for the 21st)
Your interested to see how the winter turns out friend,
Linda

I’ve taken next week off to do some things around the house, hunt and clean out the hen house too. As of last night, it looks like I’m in for some wet and cold weather too! I do need some time away from work though to get a new perspective and will enjoy the time at home. You take care and batten down the hatches because I think winter is upon us!!

Wouldn’t it be nice if the Hawaiian islands would send some of their “other” weather? Have a blessed day!

I’m so glad your corn is in before this next front comes through. I’m certain your chickens will be even more thankful tonight when it gets cold/wet.

Yep, your storm is over northern California right now. It’s not dropping much rain here, so there will be plenty left for you.

Here in Idaho we will do our best to save you some of the storm. Here its to be very cold thru the weekend. Time to tie up lose ends before winter hits. My chickies need a cleanout too and get the Sweeter Heater in place with the timer so they won’t freeze their tails off. Today I am going out into the rare sun to finish planting trees and finish the xmas sewing projects. All seasons have a purpose. Enjoy it all. As my Dad used to say waste not, want not.

We’re having a pretty week here so far—but the weekend and next week look stormy here. Have fun cleaning out the chicken house!!! That doesn’t sound like a job I would enjoy…. ha.. BUT—who besides me enjoys raking and blowing a gazillion leaves????? ha
Hugs,
Betsy

Cleaning out the hen house was never a favorite chore of mine, either. But it was nice once the job was finished. Your storm may be heading our way tomorrow night.

If the 21st is a judge for winter..it will be bitterly cold and dry for us with very little sun. It will be interesting to see how that works out. You will have happy chickens in that fresh hay! 🙂
