Winter’s Frozen Lap — January 5, 2014

BlueAfter a day of wind and scattered snow showers the clouds started to blow away leaving us with a stunning sunset!

Then during the night the dark mid-night blue sky brought forth a silent, frozen, glittering heaven.

Today we woke-up to brittle blue skies with clouds etched along the edges of our horizons.  The side-ways sleet that flung into our eyes and our faces didn’t even stick or make a glittering dune to enjoy after the storm moved on.

If I look at the mountains they are showing white, which is good…water in the making!

Still the sun is shining and the day has grown longer! (although we are very cold, 27* as I write this with a windchill of of 17*

I hope you are all warm and safe from the messy arctic storm covering most the U.S. map.

Your friend,

Linda

  1. We also got snow from about 11 pm last night until 7 am this Sunday morning. The wind at 32 mph and wind gust at 35.Sun out now. Very dangerous.
Tell Fuzzy and Boomer they were right about the book, The Great Turkey Walk. I got it at our Library yesterday and finished it this morning. it is so well written you feel like you are right there.
Hope you both do not have to be out much.

  2. I like that Linda- “brittle blue skies” . Aren’t the skies vivid in the cold months? I too have noticed the longer days now and a quote of my late Daddy ring in my ears — ” as the days lengthen, the cold strengthens.” Clear and very cold here, but thankfully warm and comfortable inside.

  5. We are having very cold weather for Florida. The strawberries are just getting ripe, the farmers will run there sprinklers when the temps reach 32, that will coat the plants and protect them from freezing. The citrus can withstand temps of 27 for up to 4 hours and not freeze. The fish farmers cover the fish ponds and run warm well water in them to keep the water warm, these are tropical fish. My kids have citrus, my son in law will sleep at the groves, my daughter will check temps every hour and call him, he will start running water when it reaches 28. Tues. Night is suppose to be really cold and in the 20’s. I know other people have it much worse but we are not prepared for this cold weather, some houses don’t even have heat in them.

  6. So beautiful! Here in the middle of the state we’re covered in snow and it’s been snowing on and off all day. We might have had a nice sunset, but I had my head down shoveling and missed it! I’ll remember to look up next time 🙂
