A Little Update — March 30, 2014

Since I’ve had lots of emails asking how my foot is doing (which I THANK YOU for asking 🙂 ) I thought I would show you.

HealingIt is ever so much better.  (Yes, I have an old ladies foot, because I am an old lady 🙂 )

The bottom is healed, and only hurts if I stand on the ball of my foot or try to tippy-toes to reach something.  Strangely the worst part has been the top of my foot.  See that little bump?  That is where the nail stopped…not going clear through which is nice.

Everyday it is better and really only slowed me down the first four days. I had to use a cane for two of those days…what a slow process that is-waling with a cane!

Still I would NOT recommend anyone going through this.

Now onto ‘funner’ things.

BeesThe apricot trees are blooming and alive with the sound of Honey Bees!

Beautiful!

FAVI like to stand under the tree and smell the blossoms and hear the bees singing their thankfulness.

I have no idea if we will have any apricots this year. They usually get frozen or a mean bully wind comes up and trashes the blooms.  When I grew up in an orchard (my grandparent’s house and my parent’s house were in the middle of the orchards) both my beloved Grandfather and my wonderful Dad said apricots were really hard to grow here and get a crop.  It seemed like every nine years, or so, you could get a crop—the reason is they bloom so early.  They are the FIRST of the fruit trees to bloom, therefore subject to destroying wind and killing freezes.

HeaderStill they are a gift to a winter weary bee and a human’s soul!

Your friend,

Linda

  1. When we were children our family would drive from Long Beach, CA to Grand Junction where my grandmother and other relatives lived. She lived on a few acres in Orchard Mesa, back before it was a subdivision like it is now! The first thing we did (after getting grandma’s hugs!) was run to the apricot tree to see if there were any left on the tree! She would always mention how they were frozen out that year, but once in a while there would be some of the most delicious fully ripe ones left just for us! Lets hope the bullies don’t get your buds this year! Glad to hear your foot is healing too! Teri

  2. Ouch! That bruise looks ouchy!
I planted a nectarine tree and 2 apple trees last year. Got 1 apple. And yep, I was kind enough to share with Cameron! Ha!
Hope to get more this year. They done even have blossoms yet.
    Such pretty apricot blossoms.

  3. Well, dear Linda, I think your old lady foot is pretty pretty…such a nice pedicure to compliment the blues of your injury! But, what a major “ouch”…I get quite queasy thinking about the nail reaching all the way to the little bump. Very considerate of you to follow up with apricot blossoms. I can almost smell them and hear the buzz. So very beautiful.

  4. The foot looks …. Um…. Great….? Yikes. I’m glad it’s feeling better. I did the cane thing last summer for a couple of months leading up to my knee replacement surgery. It really IS slow-going, plus I think it made me clumsy in so many ways that didn’t even have anything to do with walking! Weird. I was so happy to give it away when I got better.

  5. It still looks ouchy but I’m glad it doesn’t hurt as much. Mine still has a little “colour” and is a tad itchy but it never hurt……I’m happy about that.

  6. Very good!!!
Just don’t get your foot mixed up with the bees! They may not agree.

Got a good drenching of rain for a couple of days, but the outback needs
more still. Virtually cloudless here in Brisbane this morning.

  7. I see the old lady’s foot still has nicely painted toenails, though – great colour. I know what you mean about the blossom. I used to have a three-variety grafted peach tree which had pale, medium and dark pink blossom, fabulously beautiful. But I never got a single fruit from it; wind, rain, birds and fruit bats took care of the lot!

  8. Glad your foot is better, Linda. Sure looks like it would still hurt! Lovely apricot blossoms!! There used to be apricot and peach trees here on the farm, but they were quite old and gradually died off. With our drought, I am hesitant to plant more trees as they need quite a bit of water to get established. Hope your trees bear some fruit for you.

    Blessings!

  9. I just figured out how I missed the post about when you injured your foot—I was out of town, without my computer! I’m so sorry it happened to you. It’s always creepy to pull something out of yourself when you’ve been impaled. I once did it to my hand, all the way through. 😦
Glad you are on the mend and hope you’ll be back to 100% very soon!
PS>>Your toes look great! Mine aren’t painted yet. 🙂

  10. Remembering a similar experience. Makes me wince to think about that kind of pain, even though the body is so miraculous in its healing process. The apricot blossoms are magnificent. Apricots always remind me of my Gramma. Their house had an apricot tree big enough to climb in and there was the scent of jam making late every summer.

  11. Keep on taking care of that foot — don’t rush things. I noticed your beautiful header as soon as I came here .. and here are some more beautiful apricot blossoms. I hope you get some fruit, but the flowering trees are definitely worth it whether you do or not. Yay Spring!

  12. I’m a bit late – haven’t been online for a little while but it was good to know you can walk around ok and your foot is continuing to heal Linda. That bruise, still there at this stage, certainly gives an indication of what a sore, sore foot you had.
I love apricots – homegrown ones especially, they’re definitely a treat. I like your philosophy regarding the bees. They’re such busy, hardworking creatures aren’t they – the treat of fresh new blossoms certainly does get them buzzing. We all depend on them, so your beautiful trees are are certainly giving back.
Love your blossom photos and, oh yes, your toes are so pretty 😀
