Moving on—-and a Fence–Thursday—July 30, 2014

Well, the horrible day has finally arrived!

Our youngest daughter, our son-in-law, and the three kiddos will be loaded up and heading out soon.

All of us will have a load …Misty in the van, Kelly in his pick-up truck, and Terry and I with the horse trailer.  We need to be in Craig, Colorado by noon!  At 2:00 p.m. the kids pick up the keys to their new house.  After that we unload.

Linkin will be coming back with us for three weeks.  Blade is still trying to decide if he wants to come spend a week with us or not.  He is a 7th grader now…I hope he comes —one week won’t hurt anything since school doesn’t start (and FOOTBALL practice) until the last week of August.  Tallin will come the third week of August since Mom-mom will be at work full-time.

As you can see it isn’t the LAST time we will see the kids, but it is the time of the move. They will be back to get some of the stuff they couldn’t or didn’t want to pack this time (like the animals…a rabbit, two guinea pigs, two cats, a fish tank…and the summer yard care stuff.  We will do kid shuffles off and on  for the three weeks.  Linkin will stay the whole time as she is responsible for all the pets left behind.

Kelly really will be glad to get his family settled, he has been very busy all summer with his new job as Principal of Moffat County High School.  Misty was hired as the physical education Teacher at Sunset Elementary, the two little girls will go to the same school where their Momma teaches.  Blade, of course, will be in the Middle School.

Life changes!

Always.

All we can do is change with things and move forward.  I am now walking in my Momma’s and Daddy’s shoes since they didn’t get to have their grandchildren close. They worked at keeping them in their lives anyway.  Today my adult children have very wonderful memories of their time with my parents.  I have an excellent example to know how to achieve this closeness.

Yard-fence

Before we head out I leave you with a fence going up Brick Yard Hill—the road that goes to the top of California Mesa…this was once a small farm, but not anymore.  The young couple that purchased a few acres kept the feel of the farm with this wooden fence.

Your friend who is now entering a new chapter in life,

Linda

  1. The fence looks great.
Busy time for you helping with the move etc.
You have the right attitude about staying in close touch with the family. Even if you don’t see them as often anymore, there are many ways to stay close.

  2. Hollyhoooooocks!!!

You were right about grandkids. Addictive little buggers, aren’t they? I’m glad you get to spend a few more weeks with yours.

  3. Exciting and sad times. You all will surely miss those back and forth walks between your places but you have indeed planted the seeds of greatness in those grandchildren. Hang in there!

The way it is and you said all that needs to be said in a great way of looking at these life circumstances.

  6. As you say there are a lot of ways to stay close if you work at it. Your hollyhocks are sensational. Hollyhocks don’t seem to be “in style” in today’s gardens. I wonder why.

  7. HI Linda Yes a new chapter in your life. Embrace it. It will be great to have your grand children over the next few weeks. Enjoy them. My daughter and 2 grand children are arriving from Malawi this Saturday and then on 10 August we are all going to Malawi! Can’t wait.

  9. I can understand how bitter-sweet this day is for you and Terry. But I know you will do a wonderful job of keeping the kids (and grandkids) in your lives. Enjoy the next three weeks.

  10. Oh Sweetie, I am so sorry for your pain… I know how hard it is to have kids/grands move away.. When my first grandchild (a little girl–first one in the family for me) moved when she was 8 months old, I’ll never forget the feeling when I saw my son/DIL and baby drive OFF that day… I cried for days and days and days… Bless Your heart.. Glad though that the grandchildren will be spending some time with you this month… What happens to their pets/animals after the 3 weeks??? How far also is it between you and their new home? Hope you all can work out something to meet halfway –when the grands visit…. God Bless all of you –and safe travels…

Have a great day.. I posted a “Rain or Sun” blog today.. Interesting scenic drive!!!
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  11. Your words brought tears to my eyes, Linda. I am younger than you are but can already anticipate the moments your are describing so well. I wish you the best with this new chapter in your life. New is good too, you know, as it keeps us alive and young. Of course, I wish your son and his family lots of happiness in their new home. They were lucky to have you so close and are taking fond memories with them.

  12. I know how hard it is to see our kids leave, when we drove our kids to the airport to go to Germany it was all I could do to hold my tears until they were out of site. Our daughter is married to a local farmer so they will stay put about four miles from us. Just enjoy the time with them with lots of hugs and memories

  13. I knew this day would come, it will be an adjustment for everyone! Hang in there and spoil them while you can, I am certain you will see them often…but it will be different. Good to hear that Misty got a job too:)

  14. I am certain this is tough for you and your husband. At least the areas are close enough for an overnight occasionally. We were 700 miles from our grandchildren till last fall. Missed all the baby toddler years. Wishing you the best in this new chapter.

  15. Nice fence. It sounds like you’ll be busy the month of August. When one chapter ends, we usually can’t wait to turn the page and find out the rest of the story. May the next chapter be as fulfilling as the previous.

  16. It will all be fine! You have great role models and this summer (as well as many to come) to be with your grands. And obviously you will make the time count. (Quality vs quantity, blah blah blah…). But I know you seriously will miss the daily contacts.

So lovely to know that the reason for the move is such a good one — that your kids are doing so well!!!

Hope your trip goes (went?) well and their move-in was fine.
