About Dayphoto

My name is Linda Brown. I live on a farm on the western slope of Colorado, in the high mountain desert. I’ve lived here all my life, hailing back four generations on my father’s side. Today I blog about our farm, the everyday activities that keep the farm going. I also write about my thoughts and dreams and goals. On Friday’s I always write about TLC Cai-Cai. Our sweet kitty who helps keep the farm safe. And Boo Berry Betty, a breeder dog learning to be a Farm Dog! The lovely thing about blogging it opens the world up for all of us to reach out and meet people from many different cultures and different ways of life. You can find me every day (but Saturday) at https://coloradofarmlife.wordpress.com/ Your Friend on a Western Colorado Farm, Linda Brown

We Are Melting!!!! ♥ YEAH!

I’ve been so tired of being cold!

Even though we have a light on the chicken water it still will freeze in -* weather.  And the cows have a heated tank, but they still need the pond in the upper pasture chopped open.

37* today…even while I write this.  The sky is a bright blue and I’m stuck inside.

Oh, well.  It’s still melting and that is a joy!

Fire in the Sky

By surfacing your blogs I see that the sky was on fire in many of your areas.

The cows seems totaly unaware, but not me (or you).

I love the drama the heavens give us!

NO Snow YEAH!

And I only had one spot with construction!!!  YEAH!

I had to be at Paonia by 6:30 in the morning!  Which means I had to hit the highway by 5:30.  I was thrilled to not have snow!

The Joys of Retirement from Your ‘Other’ Job

The barn is sllllooowwwlllyyy coming along.  The weather is a big factor, either it’s snowing or way too cold to get out there and ‘do something’.

The other thing is Terry is doing this alone.  Which means, if it’s too cold, why go out.

(Terry used to work as a Lineforeman for the power company (37 years)  and he still farmed.)  He says picking and choosing when you go outside is real nice, real nice!

Storm Heading Our Way

Red sky in the morning…Sailor take warning!

And it has warmed up!  22*  YEAH!

Frozen Water

Waiting for spring…

Waiting.

As more snow piles up.  Just think— corn watered by melted snow.

Only 8-10 more weeks to go.

Happy 2010

It has taken many years for me to understand that material things (which seemed so important) can be replaced by the beauty and simplicity of the views from my  our backyard —

Like watching the last of the leaves blow off the giant Cottonwood tree

Seeing Fuzzy running alongside the four-wheeler, as we go check the water

Watching the chickens busy scratching in the dirt

Feeding the cows, brushing their fur

The shadows of the buildings slowly working their way across the place until fading into the darkness of the night

Grandchildren playing outside in the late summer evening with laugher floating on the breeze

I used to be too young to care about all these things

Then as time progressed too busy weeding, or mowing, or canning, to notice

But I am old now; these things are my most precious memories

And my most favorite of things

After spending the first part of my life rushing through it I think I’ll spend the last little bit enjoying every minute I have left.

Have a Happy New Year!  I’m taking some time off and will return on Monday, January 4, 2010.

A Snowbow?

On the way home from work the other evening

I saw a weird but beautiful light in the southern clouds

Since a snow storm was headed our way, I wondered if it could have been

A snow(rain)bow?

Merry Christmas to You

I don’t know WHY Mom had to put this dumb thing on me…I can say Merry Christmas just fine without it!

(Bah! Hum-Bug!!! This dumb hat has to go!)

May joy and happiness snow on you, may the bells jingle for you and may Santa be extra good to each and every one of you!

Merry Christmas!
