Bittersweet Ending

Summer is going and Fall is approaching.

Sigh!

Although, I really do like the warm days and the cooler evenings, it’s winter that I dread.  And it looks like it is coming very early this year.  We only had about two weeks of really hot weather, so I figure we only had about two weeks of summer.

Other signs are out there, the song birds have flown, the hummers have left, the milkweed is blowing and the cattails are starting to split.  All this started about the middle of August…now this

  1. We haven’t had any leaves turning color – yet! But we have finished, it seems, with the hot humid & hazy two weeks of summer. While I’m happy to see the H3 go I really don’t want winter this year, I really don’t.

  2. We have had the same kind of weather, about 2 weeks of really hot weather and the rest has been cool and wet! I love fall, but hate the winter! I bet your winters are close to ours or even worse depending where you are!

  3. here in WA too.

SOOOO sad! Especially after such a hot spell! We were really hoping summer would decide to stay until October. :o)

Please, no snow until late November!

  4. The past several winters I have embraced the cold like I long for the heat of summer.

The heat wilts and draws down our energy, yet the cold invigorates us.

Heart the chills, the snow and the beauty that this season provides, that is my view.

I put up a pic of fall 2day.

  5. Oooo, it sure looks like fall is starting for you!!! We are still all green in virginia and ohio. Im hoping it will hold out until I’m off to africa. I am happy to say that I will NOT miss the winter. This will be my third winter spent in the desert, so I’ve been lucky!!

  6. I was just telling Grizzly about your early fall and we were pondering the meanings. This should prove interesting. Wondering, wondering, what’s up. I love how you let God’s Green Earth tell you what’s going on. Far greater predictor, in my humble opinion and way more fascinating than the weather report! My money’s on you!

  7. Yes the weather is strange. It is still supposedly winter in Australia, but this last week the temperature has soared to 35 celsius here in Brisbane. Fortunately I don’t mind the heat except when it remains “heatwave” like during the night. God help us when summer does arrive in November!!!!! Still there are always the beaches to go to for cooling off, also plenty of them to choose from.
I loathe the cold and when I was young I loved to go to the ski fields. I must have been mad?

  8. Finally, finally, finally, the awful hot weather broke yesterday. It stayed for a month or so and it was unrelenting humidity and especially nasty. We’re not used to that kind of weather here. I love fall (except hunting season) and after the stretch of hot weather, I hope it snows soon 🙂
P.S. – I did find a weather book yesterday of old Yankee weather sayings and if the robins left early, it’s going to be a long winter. They left very early this year.

  9. Signs of Fall are all around here, leaves changing colors..really cool nights, it could freeze any night now..I am not ready for winter either,,it seems to last so long. I could take like two weeks of winter..cause that is the most summer we got..there should be some fairness in this world:)

  10. Hello. I live in Silverthorne Colorado(8,700 ft) and our aspens are turning yellow already. What is the elevation in Delta? I’ve been dreaming of moving lower, where the winters are not so long, having a garden and chickens….

  11. While I love Fall I’m just not quite ready for summer to end yet. It’s finally cooled off a bit, still not much rain, so it’s actually pleasant to be outside. I’m just starting to enjoy summer and now it’s almost gone.
