Frozen Water

Waiting for spring…

Waiting.

As more snow piles up.  Just think— corn watered by melted snow.

Only 8-10 more weeks to go.

    corn watered by snow
    so true
we may have more this week
Have you seen Avatar the Movie? It is science fiction, but built around the theme of the Indians of North America. If you saw it… you would so see what I mean.

  2. I always think of the snow as watering our forest with thick rain. Hope the snow will make your crops grow tall this year. Our snow is gone, so I enjoyed looking at your snow.

  3. Hi Linda

I would be hoping for Spring to come very early for you! Yes, you keep your lovely snow, I will just tolerate the Brisbane heat and hope to survive the summer. How about a report for the bloggers, who read your so informative reports, on the cattle, dog and chooks on your farm in this Colorado winter? Floods are all over the Eastern side of Australia but so far no real problems, but in WA ( Perth) side they, after the cyclones, resulting in the east side getting all the rain are experiencing bushfires of “horrific” proportions.
The World is strange – one has to wonder why?

At the present rate of the weather patterns in your “neck of the wood” you’ll never get the water problem fixed for the damage to the house after the burst pipes! Best of luck in that department.

    Cheers

  4. That should be enough to keep the corn watered for awhile. Our snow is gone, replace by just rain, for now at least.
    Happy New Year,

PS, I’ve been trying to get your blog to show up on my blog roll. I think I finally made it stick.

  5. We had a green New Year, but now there’s an inch of snow. Enough to make it look beautiful but not too much to drive true! And it’s cold, -4°C/24°F this morning. I’m always longing for snow and clear blue freezing sky, but now that I have it, I’m dreaming of Spring already, my fingers are itching to play with seeds and soil again…

  6. Megan, I agree—that is one of the really nice things about winter. Seed catalogs!

Diane, I would send you some if I could. 🙂

ThreeCollie-And a really good book that ‘takes you away…..’

Mieke-I enjoy the feel of soil and weeds and plants. My eyes are a wee bit tired of white. White everywhere. Sigh. But a cold winter day with a variety of colors (shades of brown, shades of gold) and a crisp blue sky is a wondrous thought right now.

  7. SquirrelQueen-They ditch rider called today for the crop report and he said the dams are full, with an above average amount of snowfall. All this is good. The worst that could happen is we have a very early spring and the snow melts quickly. But if the Farmer’s Almanac is correct we are going to experience more snow and below average temperatures. Spring does come. That is true.

I want you to know that I really enjoy your blogs and your photos are amazing.

Teena-With beautiful blue skies, big white fluffy clouds and green grass…oh, wait! It only the first week in January. I had better not get too carried away. 🙂

    HB(Colin)-
Weather sure is an issue. Makes me wonder what all the fuss is about with the Global Warming stuff. Of course, you just came off a drought so the rain is a blessing and a curse all at once.

Parts of America are still having drought problems and other parts (like where ThreeCollie lives) is on their second year of too much rain. My heart goes out to those struggle with floods and wild fires! The weather is strange.

I have begun looking for kitchen flooring, a rather nice past-time. Then come spring I will know what I want and can get it laid.

Callie-I always laugh because the grower who owns and sells Olathe Sweet/Sweet Corn advertises that the corn was watered by melted snow. We have people really excited by that thought and ask us if we use melted snow to water our corn.

Yes we do…that is what irrigation water is…

Oh, well, he does a good job of marketing.

  8. Kath-I know….I know.. I want to be positive, I really do. Sigh.

Lisa-And I hate to drive in it. If a person could just look out the window at all the shinny diamonds glittering on the ground, never have to be in it, or in the nasty bitter wind that always seems to accompany the stuff…then winter isn’t so bad!

Pam-We went to the movie AVATAR last night. Loved it! Simple story line, evil corporate dude, nasty mercenaries military guys, sounds effects and movie effects were amazing. I recommend to everyone!

Leenie-But farming starts in March so for me the countdown has begun!

Lucy and Faith- I should think of something, I really should.

  9. Always nice to meet an optimist, I think it might be a little more than 8 – 10 weeks here. I know it serves a purpose but man I hate winter, I get to say this because I’m on my way out the door to ……wait…..wait for it plow snow. Yuk.

  10. You and Kath are getting killed with snow this year.

BTW, made a big ole batch of refried beans out of some that you sent. They are fantastic. I’m using some of the leftovers to bind fake meat together for meatballs tonight and BBQ meatless loaf tomorrow. Yum Yum. Thank you again a thousand times.

  11. Michele-It is really rather becoming tiresome. I think the cold weather is the worst. But it is warmer this afternoon, so Terry thought he could go out and work on the barn some more.

I’m glad you like them. Which beans did you use?

Janice-We only get the snow plow once a day where we live and he hits there around noon. I so understand the wait.

GP-Farming ♥ starts in March….not long now. (I keep telling myself)
